Crete
View from room....ancient fortress Four planes, one big bag of licorice, 1 box of Goobers, 4 in-flight meals, 1 movie, 5 random naps, 1 talkative French girl, lost luggage, 500 second hand cigarettes smoked (and counting), numerous people who need deodorant and a dental plan, 1 cab ride, and it’s official we are FINALLY in Crete! All in all, it took about 23 hours of travel time to get here; although our luggage stayed in the states!
The resort that we are staying at is breathtaking! I will try and post some pictures in this blog but if I can’t, then I will do it later! We decided to do some shopping courtesy of Air France last night seeing as we had been in the same clothes for a day! We took a cab down to a little town called Elounda! I bought a pair of shoes and a skirt! Clay stayed in his dirty clothes! We ate at a fantastic little restaurant on the Mediterranean Sea! Clay had an authentic Greek dish called Mouska (not sure if I spelled that right) which was like Sheppard’s pie! I had spaghetti carbonara (which is very popular)! Then of course we had to end the meal
with Baklava! We caught a cab back and then went to bed
When we woke up this morning……..no bags to be found! They originally said they would be in late last night! So since we have travel insurance we decided to shop again except this time at the resort! BIG MISTAKE! I went down to look at the bathing suits while Clay was handling the missing luggage situation! I started looking at the suits and thought to myself….so it took my mom and I a full day of running around Orlando to find a bathing suit! How can I possibly settle on a suit here! Well settling was exactly what I had to do. I tried on whatever fit and let me remind you that the sizes and cuts are European! I found what I thought would work and told her to cut the tags that I would wear it out of the store. So while I’m waiting for Clay with the bathing suit on under the dress that I bought the previous night, I looked at the price of the other suits. $275 Euro….surely that must be a code for the suit and not the price! Let me
Door to room
Yes I am relaxing and reading! remind you that I have already cut the tags and am wearing the suit! Then I asked her for a hat and she said besides for a baseball hat all she had were Fendi hats! Oh boy I thought! Finally Clay arrives at the store and he gets a suit, a pair of sandals, a hat for me, and sunscreen! All in all that cost us $700 American $$$$$ It practically ruined my day! Actually seeing me in my $300 European bathing suit that I wore for 2 hours and will NEVER wear again ruined my day!
We decided to stay around the resort however, it was extremely windy. I’m talking 20-30 mp winds. We had a few cocktails and when the towel blew away for the tenth time, we decided it was time to go to our private pool which is connected to our patio. From here, the day took a definite upswing. I read my book at the pool. Clay worked on his fantasy football team draft. The room is perfect except for one small problem. Voyeurs! The resort is built into the mountain with each room overlooking the sea. Therefore, a diagonal lift is needed to
One of many pools
This is the pool down by the Sea! take hotel guests from the lobby down to the beach. On their way down to the beach (or back up) they look directly into our private pool/room. This makes nude sun bathing quite impossible. Ha ha. We looked at 2 other potential rooms to switch, but both had unattractive views. So, we decided to deal with the voyeurs.
A little known fact about (this is for you Amiee) the island you see in the photos, it was once a Venetian fortress, but in the early 1900’s it was converted to a leper colony up until 1959 when they discovered leprosy was not a communicable disease.
We went to Eulonda for the rest of the day today and got the best iced coffee and Gyro I have ever had! At the end of the meal they served us a homemade wine/liquor. Clay wants to find a place for us to try it again tonight.
Tomorrow we are planning on going to a water park that has a ‘foam’ party every day! I will update you when we can!
Love to everyone
