after albania, we welcomed greece with open, loving arms! starting our exploration in corfu, we relaxed on the beautiful island for just over a week taking in the sights, beaches and fantastic food!.....from corfu, we toured the mainland enjoying the mountains, rivers and gorgeous, refreshing archeon springs. we drove to korinthos where we enjoyed perfect beachside camping....from there we took in the acropolis and spent a day enjoying the ruins! From Athens we decided it was time again for island hopping and started in paros, jumping over to santorini, naxos, mykonos, and samos. All this island touring was via large ferry..each port arrival felt like the normany invasion with hundred of honeymooners and backpackers running down the tail ramp of these massive boats. we found our favorite places were the lesser known areas of the islands. the famous oia sunset was beautiful in santarini, but the highlight of the island was mama's restaurant, recommended by a friend. never have i witnessed such a fun loving, energetic, woman of her age. all patrons that entered her restaurant left with a smile on their face, not only for the great food, but also the entertainment. each guest--whether a teen, adult or elder was greeted with the bellowing of "hello sex bum!"....some turned red, others laughed... naxos was a perfect find for us. our few days turned into over two weeks as we found our favorite accommodation of this trip....SUMMER DREAMS in ANNA. The owners took great care in making us feel at home in their first rate brand new studios all of which sit right on beautiful pool and steps from an amazing beach. a half dozen restaurants and lounge bars sit on the sand to enjoy the setting sun nightly. A big hello to Denis and Stacy from New Jersey for the good company and laughs by the pool!!..we enjoyed the travel stories Denis...I think i speak for both of in saying...we feel much closer to you now!! 😊
something that sets greece apart from other countries is their love for cats. the majority of island restaurants have at least one cat that owns the territory. it is customary when the cat approaches to give them a nibble off your plate or they will take it from your toes. The kitties are happy to help with the amazing food here in greece...gorging ourselves daily on greek salads topped with mounds of feta cheese and veal and pork prepared a million different ways and the oh, so healthy baklava. Greece has definitely been a trip highlight for us...initially planning to spend a few days here, the days turned to weeks and suddenly we realized over a month had flown by...Turkey is calling our name and off we go!
