Took a 45min flight from Heraklion to Rhodes, which was very uneventful. Arriving at 11:00pm is not our first choice, but what it allowed us to do was enter the medieval town and port while it was lite up. The Old Town is the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe and is quite the sight. We stayed right in the Old Town at The Spot Hotel, (great location and very friendly owner). The entire town is surrounded by a 12m wall which is fully intact that makes for a lot of fun walking around the alleyways and trying to find your way out.
All the Greek Islands are unique in there one way and Rhodes is another example of that. The port is full of cruise ships and yachts, and all the big name hotels (Hilton, Sofitel etc...) have a presence here, unlike the other islands we have visited. For those poor saps that are travelling to Rhodes next summer for the Small Island games......well you'll have a blast, there are a good number of bars, the nightlife is alive and well, and the beaches are reachable by car, scooter. After spending a full day in the old town and
having purchased several "Good Luck" pieces of jewerly (necklaces, bracelets & key chains), we decided to rent (2) scooters for our second day and cruised the east coast. At 15 Euro a day, the scooter rental was cheap. We drove 92km, 46km each way, to the town of Lindos which is the #1 tourist attraction in Rhodes - famous for its Acropolis that stands over the tiny white city of Lindos. We must admit, when we first heard of a town called Lindos, we couldn't help think of a grocery store that we frequented at least (5) times a week that charged $1 an apple - god bless them, they know how to Fk'n rip off an expat!
The drive to Lindos was fun, as we were able to drive the scooters to their max. The east coast of Rhodes is where all the nice beaches are, as well as the resorts and touristy/trashy little towns. We stopped at as many beaches as possible on our way back checking out the "Personal Space" availablity, before choosing one where we had a quick dip. During our last night we came across this bar which had cheap internet and a great
vipe about it - the Karokee certainly helped!!
Other than wanting to share some pics of Rhodes, the other reason for sending out (2) blogs tonight is the fact that we are heading to Turkey tomorrow and the Kurds seem persistent in continuing there bombing campaign which means we run a good risk of being .........................d.
We truly belive in the saying "It's not the years of your life but the life of your years", thus we continue with our plans and look forward to seeing Mom and Dad and the sights of Turkey.
Well this raps up our European leg of our trip, with the exception of a brief stop over to see the Joynts and some of the hangovers from E&Y that have gravitated to the grey, rainy city that is called London. For those that receive our blogs on a regular basis we would really like to get some feed back on what we can add/delete to our future blogs. Yes, we know we could have some skin photos capturing the "topless" beach scene - but do you know how stupid we feel walking down a beach with a telephoto lens!---Maybe we'll bring a
camera into our Turkish Bath!!!!!!
Anyhow, we hope to continue the blogs and look forward to hearing some feedback from all of you......Remember - Today was Tomorrow Yesterday!

Looking forward to seeing you in London.
