Dimitri Pension
Ou Accomodation while in Paros. The next day we packed our bags, said goodbye to ‘Mama’ and headed the Port to catch our next ferry to Paros. The ferry was a short sharp trip that lasted about 45 minutes but left many with weak stomachs. The seas were rough and the ‘Sea jet’ was fast. On arrival to the port in Paros, many were happy to be back on land, we found our transport to the accommodation.
Here we stayed at Dimitri’s Pension while the main group was around the corner at Pension Elizabeth. Our room was small and underground, but it suited us as it had a single be that became the ‘bed-robe’. After dumping our stuff and getting orientated with the room, we set off into town to have a wonder round the shops, but first lunch. We found the first Bakery that was packed to the rafters with beautiful pastries and bread. The shops were small in size, but many in number, so we took our time then headed back for our nights activities.
Night one, we had dinner at a place 20metres from the Beach where the food was beautiful and a plenty. We partook in some Plate smashing, to
Everyman and his Donkey
A local walking home with his shopping on the back of a donkey. He willingly possed for the photo. rid ourselves of our worries while we travel, and some traditional Greek dances atop of the smashed plates, just to make sure they were gone. We then headed back to the ‘main town’ where the group enjoyed some cocktails and shisha at the Salon D’or before calling it a night.
After a good night’s sleep, we met up with everyone for a day on a boat sailing around Antiparos. With free wine in hand and the sun blazing, we were set for a great day. With 5 stops along the way, we had plenty of time to get to know everyone and enjoy the sun and the views. The first 2 stops we had the chance to jump from a boat into the water and have a good slash around, or to grab a pair of goggles and a snorkel and have a look at what was beneath us. On our third stop however, it was time for lunch on our own private beach. We were treated to some beautifully fresh Octopus grilled on the BBQ before a feast of skewered Pork or Chicken and an array of other Greek foods. Then some Ouzo to finish it off (Yamas).
Parikia
The main street along the waterfront. With full tummies we set sail again to our fourth stop for another dip in the ocean or snorkelling even trying to ‘dump’ others in the water from their Li-low’s. On arrival here, the group found entertainment in the form of an unlucky couple who seemed to have thought they had privacy, as it seemed the girl was quickly getting dressed after the captain sounded the horn. So when departing this spot, the unlucky couple got a round of applause from the group. Our final stop was at a nice beach where we enjoyed an ice-cream and a final dip before boarding the boat for one final journey home. We then enjoyed a nice dinner of the waterfront, that included a Greek Salad, a main (Mousakka for Myself and Fish for Laura) and to finish off a dessert (Panacotta) all for around €12 each. Good value for money we thought. We then retired to our room for some much needed sleep.
As the main group moved on the following day, we decided to hit the town and browse around the shops and try and find some cool souvenirs. It was just a nice quiet day, walking around thinking about
Laura
About to smash her plate. OOpa! what food to eat next. We then met up with our new friend Alex, who stayed on longer here too, for another inexpensive dinner on the water front, before heading to an open-air cinema (outdoor), for a viewing of The Avengers. It was in English, but with Greek subtitles. The only problem with this was being eaten alive in the cinema, other than that it was a good experience.
The next day we felt like exploring the island and for this, we hired quad bikes and rode around for the day. We enjoyed frozen yogurt on the way before stopping for lunch, again, on the water front. We got to experience the beautiful views that Paros had to offer all while having fun at the same time. We spent the entire day with Alex, exploring the island before heading back to (finally) meet up with the next group of Bus Abouters and our next tour leader, Josh. And after enjoying a ‘Nick’s’ Burger, we headed back to the Shisha Bar with the new group, to get acquainted with the new group. We then called it a night and packed our bags, ready to depart to Santorini the next day.
