Oui oui. « ... read more

The next day we packed our bags, said goodbye to ‘Mama’ and headed the Port to catch our next ferry to Paros. The ferry was a short sharp trip that lasted about 45 minutes but left many with weak stomachs. The seas were rough and the ‘Sea jet’ was fast. On arrival to the port in Paros, many were happy to be back on land, we found our transport to the accommodation. Here we stayed at Dimitri’s Pension while the main group was around the corner at Pension Elizabeth. Our room was small and underground, but it suited us as it had a single be that became the ‘bed-robe’. After dumping our stuff and getting orientated with the room, we set off into town to have a wonder round the shops, but first lunch. We found ... read more

Friday 3rd June 2011 contd About 6 pm we took a walk out and went to look at the town. There are a variety of shops and a number with some class and very nice chic things to buy. The place is elegant, but not up itself and has a degree of sophistication. There is any amount of the usual souvenir stuff to buy, if you want it but plenty of other stuff. We made our way up the central street and found the Venetian castro (another one) which is central to the town for a change and is of a different style in that it was built in a square with houses effectively as the walls and people were on the inside in times of pirate attacks and danger. Apparently is was no good to ... read more

Friday3 June 2011 Well another day to pack our stuff and be on our way. We were moving from Paros to Antiparos, no big deal really. We slowly started moving just after nine. By the time we had finished getting ready and packing it was nearly 11 o'clock. We left the key in the reception area and ambled off to the port. We made the journey last a while as our boat wasn't until 1210 so we sat on a bench for a while watching the world go by. I popped into the Biddalas supermarket and picked up some stuff and when we got to the port the boat had arrived and we went straight on board. We only had a short while and we were off to our next island. The sun was shining and ... read more

Thursday 2nd June 2011 We had a reasonably early start to the day as we wanted to catch a bus to Naousa. We walked to the bus station in the town and caught the 1030 bus. The tickets were €1.60 each single. The journey took about twenty minutes and gave us a chance to see a little of the island as we were driving along. We were dropped off near the harbour and wandered down to the Venetian Kastro, which Pat said was looking like it was pretending to be a castle and not a real one. Then we stopped at the Insomnia cafe and had a Tuna sandwich, Yoghurt and nuts Crepe and two coffees for the cost of €21.50. You certainly get to pay for the view here. The town was very pretty with ... read more

Wednesday 1st June 2011 We both had a good nights sleep and had decided that we would have an easy beach day today. So a slow start to the day and eventually we walked the 50 metres or so down the lane to the beach. We spent about 4 hours there, reading, watching the ferries and boats coming in and out and soaking up the sun. Not too many people about, so nice and peaceful. Pat popped to the bakery and prepared some lunch in the apartment which we ate on the beach. A very pleasant day and I have some pink bits now to make me look just like a tourist! We have two more nights booked into this place so we are starting to think about what next. The options are Antiparos just next ... read more

Tuesday 31st May 2011 Pat popped out first thing and got some bread for our breakfast, which we sat and enjoyed in the sunshine on the balcony. We had some errands to run before we could get round to enjoying ourselves today. We sorted out our more difficult washing and took this along to the Top laundry on the way in to town and then to the Biddalas supermarket for supplies. We had come prepared with empty back packs so carrying stuff back was no problem. We sorted out the shopping and then went out to wander the town and see what was about. A slow amble following the path along the waters edge watching the small fish darting about was very pleasant. At the port area was a cargo vessel called the Calypso loading stuff ... read more

Monday 30th May 2011 We had a slow start to the day as we were packing up and leaving the hotel and island, ferry was booked for 1535 hours. We had paid our bill last night so just had to move the bags to reception and clear the room. We moved just before 11 o'clock and decided to have a decent breakfast to set us up for the day. The beach beckoned not far from the hotel and having made the important purchase of a sewing kit in a local supermarket we found a little beach cafe called Finikas which seemed to do a variety of breakfasts, we had two number 6's, juice, coffee, ham cheese, toast, butter, jams, honey, eggs, bacon, peppers and tomato's. The bill was €11.40 and a much better breakfast than yesterday. ... read more

On arrival at all these islands we are travelling to and from, we are met by the domatia ( room) touts. We get off the ferry, and they stand on the pier, holding up their cards announcing which hotel they are from, haggling the price with you, all trying to sell their accomodation. Up until now, we have found it fun, OK its a bit confusing.... are they telling the truth? Is the next one any better than the last? Its pot luck really, but we have had some really nice places to stay. But this time, here on PAROS, I made the mistake of accepting a flyer from one of them. Why? I have no idea, I just took it from him - fatal mistake. Not only did this guy look like a complete muppet, ... read more

I decided that after a terrible break-up with my high school sweetheart it was time to get out of Grand Rapids, Michigan for a little while and study abroad. I had many countries to choose from but for some reason Greece stuck out to me. Three months later I was laying on a beach, soaking up the Aegean sun. This trip jump started my urge to explore the world and I have no one else to thank but my high school sweetheart.... read more
