To get to Mykonos we took a slow, six hour ferry. Booking and getting to the ferry wasn't a problem, however getting a seat was. On the boat Zara and I scouted out the most comfy seats available and found a great spot next to a window. Slowly but surly the seats around us were filling up. Then suddenly people were being evicted from their seats. See, you needed a reservation. We didn't know this but found out we could reserve on the boat for a small fee. Well, when we went to do this the lady in front of us got the last two seats. By this time every other free seat was taken. So, we had to sit in the aisle for the remaining five hours. When in Europe always ask about seat reservations.
We went to Mykonos because our guide book said it was a beautiful island with a picturesque town and nice beaches. This is ture, the town is beautiful and the streets are winding and blindly white as you'd expect of Greece. The beaches are white sand with deep blue water. Perfect for lounging and swimming. The guidebook didn't
mention this place is a non-stop party.
We booked a stationary tent at Mykonos camping for $50 a night. The room was clean and the location was great. They even had a pool and lounge that overlooked the ocean. At around 11 am they started playing chill house music and by 3 pm the DJ was set up. It was a nice vibe fore a beach place. But, by 6 pm the clubs on both beaches next to us were packed and blaring top 40 dance hits. This blended with the house music. The beach bars were packed! People dancing on the bars, having a wild time. By 9pm the music stopped. "What kind of place is this?" I thought Jax bars closed early at 2 am, but 9? Turns out that's the dinner break. See, people come off the beach and party. Then eat, freshen up and party again. Around 11 pm we'd see guys and girls come from their standard tents and go into the dirty shared WC. When they came out they looked like they were going to South Beach. The style, scarfs, guys and girls. I guess it's due to the wind. Then around midnight
the party starts again. It goes 'till 6 am. We were woken up between 5-6 every morning by drunk party goers going back to their tents. It was like this every night regardless of the day of week. It was interesting to watch the ebb and flow of the party lifestyle.
Since Zara and I weren't into the party scene, and I was sick for your five days there, we only watched from afar. It was a neat experience, and one I didn't expect. But, we heard our good friends from Nice, Stan and Amanda, were going to Santorini, so we too were off.
