Athens Mainland
Leaving Pereaus Arlene, Myrna and I were off to the island of Kos. We arrived on a large ferry 9 hours later from the large Athens port of Perias. Our beautiful hotel was about 3 km out of the port city at a lovely studio with beautiful patios and swimming pool. We arrived in the port in the wee hours of the morning only to see the young people going home after a big night of usual partying with music still playing and bar lights still on. We used the local bus to go back and forth from the hotel to the main port city. We took the island bus to travel to numerous beautiful beeches around the island and on one day we heard of a village panarea, a village celebration. We missed the bus so took a cab the 45 km to attend this celebration of Greek music, Greek island dancing, good Greek food. At midnight, we had to find our way home. But unfortunately the cabs were difficult to contact, so we actually had to walk about 1/2 km, 10 minutes to the local airport, through the fence, and park and to the cab area to finally get a cab
Bodrum, Turkey
View of the city back. (I almost thought we would have to park out on the beech for the night), but we got home and were so glad that we went on this trip. After making several beech trips to have our daily swim at such beautiful places, we almost felt that we traveled much more then most tourists. We had fun going back into town eating at such excellent places and then traveling back on the crowded buses at night. We toured the castle and the village sights. We also made a separate boat trip to Turkey for one day, the port city of Bodrum. What an experience. We toured a jewelery factory(did not buy a single darn thing) and then toured the hills overlooking the city and some of the history. Beautiful again. Then we went down to the large market place. We sure had fun with the local Turkish shop people bargaining with them and talking to them (very good english). We laughed a lot. I guess we stood out with our blond hair etc. asking us where we were from and offering us Turkish food and taking pictures and asking about local customs of the tea in a glass etc.

We loved our day trip here What an exciting trip this was. I must mention how hot it was all the time. At least 35 to up to 40 plus or minus, not sure, but hot. We did some shopping, but not allot as the beech and touring the history was the best. After the full day in Turkey we returned to Kos to continue our tours and bus travel to the beeches.
