Our first full day on the west coast of the Peloponnese and we are all a bit beat. We wake up at 10am and have a nice breakfast outside on our patio. We have four choices of juices to choose from: peach, cherry, and mix of some sort. We really need to expand the typical juice selection in America. We love these flavors. After nourishment, we head off to town to find the internet café. Finally, we post the first of our blogs. Of course, there are no pictures. We plan to add those as some point before we leave. I had no idea how much time it took to write up trips like this. There never seems to be time to catch up on documenting our trip even though it is pretty mellow. After the internet shop, we take off to explore what supplies the town has to offer us. Daniel and I are still both feeling horrible. Tears are pouring down my eyes as we walk the streets and that is when I have my sunglasses on. When they are off, I can’t see a thing because my eyes are sooooo sensitive to the sun right now. Daniel’s allergies seem to have gotten worse, which I didn’t think was even possible. He does farmer blows as we walk down the streets. As Rachel says several times, it is disgusting. First stop, a pharmacy. Daniel and I load up on drugs and pray to the Greek gods for assistance. Next, we head to the grocery store to get tissues for Daniel and food for the next few days. No more farmer blows! We find the post office too and order stamps in Greek. They smiled, shook their head, and ended up having to read from our book on how to speak Greek before they understood what we wanted. We walk by a sweets store and get some baklava, which Rachel has never tried. Daniel and I both love baklava at home due to the nuts, cinnamon, filo dough, and light honey. It is the same here it seems except they use LARGE amounts of honey…so much that Daniel and Rachel decide that it is too much for them. Too bad. So Sad. I get it all! We head home when the shops begin to close for siesta time and just read books and float in the pool. Daniel tried to cook us BBQ chicken on an electric grill. Our villa has a great set-up for charcoal cooking, but it is too dangerous to use since the sparks could start a brush fire. After much cussing and a full hour, dinner is ready and we gobble it down. About 7pm, we head back into town for tourist shopping and hats to replace the ones Daniel and I lost. This town is too Greek for Rachel’s taste. The stores are certainly not catering to tourists. I find a cute hat. Daniel is out of luck. Rachel sees some cute clothes, but they are all too expensive for her budget. It seems like things are really cheap here or really expensive. There is no middle ground. We find stores that only sell US clothes like Wrangler, Levi, and Nike - certainly not what we are looking for. It was nice to get a better feel for the town. We head home, sit on the patio and talk a bit and then head off to bed.
