Sunday 23 September
Things went very smoothly on the way to Bristol Airport, no delays or diversions, but when we called the Park&Go meet and greet service there was no answer. Several more calls and still no response, also no sign of a representative at the Express Drop-off where we were supposed to hand over the car. Fortunately the very helpful lady on duty at the Airport Information Desk saved the day. She took the details of our meet and greet service and told us to get checked in while she tried to contact Park&Go. We did this and returned to the Information Desk where we were told by the lady that she'd also been unable to contact Park&Go; and I should park the car at the long term car park. She provided me with directions how to get to the car park and
Plakias Bay
On the way from Plakias to Damnoni also gave me a ticket to get out of the Drop-off area; so I was able to get the car parked and get back to the terminal with plenty of time to go through security and into Departures before our flight was called. All went reasonably well after that although the flight arrived in Chania an hour late; but the weather there was great with warm sunshine and a cloudless blue sky (unlike the cold pouring rain we'd left behind in Bristol). We collected our hire car and headed off to the south coast and Plakias, via a brief detour for lunch in Aptera outside Chania. We had an easy and uneventful drive to Plakias and checked into the Plakias Resorts holiday apartments; where the lady on duty remembered us from our previous visit. After unpacking and walking to the supermarket for supplies we went off for dinner at a nearby restaurant and then early to bed: at 9.30pm as we'd been up since 2am and were rather tired.
Monday 24th September
We woke up to a beautiful sunny morning, had breakfast in our apartment and then walked over to Damnoni Beach, stopped there for a cold drink,
then continued past the crowded Ammoudaki nudist cove to Amoudi Beach. Jane stayed there while I continued over the cliffs to the final beach, Skinaria where we hadn't been before: and are unlikely to go again since Damnoni remains the best beach we've been to around here. Then it was back to Damnoni and a warm welcome at our favourite restaurant, Mesogeios (it's nice to be remembered), and a delicious lunch. The walk back to Plakias was taken slowly, on account of the lunch and the hot afternoon weather. After a restorative coffee and rest in our apartment we went for a swim at Plakias Beach across the road from our apartment. The sea is still warm (as in not even "bracing", otherwise Jenks the Timid would be unlikely even to dip a toe in it) and it was very pleasant. It is the Libyan Sea after all so it should still be warm in September. In the evening we went to the village of Mirthios, on the mountainside above Plakias, to another favourite restaurant where we had another excellent meal.
