Monday (10-10-’11)
In the morning I went to Carrefour to do some shopping. I finally found some wraps (as most of you know, I really like those :p) so I made some for lunch with tuna. I never tried that before but I have to say, it was very tasty😉
In the evening we started what is meant to become a tradition. We are going to eat every monday with some Belgian girls, switching apartments and thus also the people who cook. The honor of hosting for the first time went to Laetitia and Elien. They cooked pasta with pesto and it was delicious! They even made banana split for dessert so after that, we were completely full😊
Wednesday (12-10-’11)
I had classes in the morning but had the afternoon off, so we took a walk to Syntagma. We ate some cake that Helene brought in the National Park and wanted to go to the Temple of Zeus but apparently it was closed due to striking (oh Greece). A taxi driver started talking to us and showing us all the things we had to see, of course all for a reasonable price if we went with him. But of course,
we just listened to all the advise and we will plan the trips ourselves😉
In the evening, Mathilde (a French/Greek girl we met in class) came to spend the night at our place because the transportation was striking the next day and she wanted to attend the classes.
We went for drinks at Lora and Laura’s place but didn’t go out afterwards.
Thursday (13-10-’11)
During the day, we had classes again. We met afterwards to go to Lycabettus Hill, I went there already with Didier and Pieter but we were too late for the sunset then so I still needed to see it. At first, I wasn’t really in the mood to go but I was so glad when we were up there. The sunset really is amazing and including the view it’s definitely worth it!
Afterwards I ate some pizza with Elien and Tanais and we went to the cheap bar.
Friday (14-10-’11)
During the day I went shopping with Elien. I bought a yellow t-shirt with some beads at zara.
In the evening, we went to the smarties party at Morgans’ apartment, everybody had to wear a color of a smartie. Of course, I wore the
yellow shirt that I bought that day:p
Afterwards we went to the balloon party at some club, the taxis were striking so we had to walk 20 minutes to get there and to come back.
Saturday (15-10-’11)
We met with a small group to visit the Marmarostadion. It was pretty impressive to see and to imagine all the events that took place there.
Afterwards we went to eat something at mcdonalds and went to some small shops at Monastiraki. We also ate a huge pancake with chocolate sauce and banana, it was very good!
In the evening, we just had drinks at our place.
Monday (17-10-’11)
In the morning, I went to the market and to the Carrefour to do the shopping for our dinner in the evening. The Belgian girls were coming over to our place this week to have dinner, so of course I decided to make wraps with chicken😉
In the evening Tanais and I prepared the dinner, everybody liked it so we were happy😉
Wednesday (19-10-’11)
I just had classes this day and didn’t plan to go anywhere. We heard there were protests going on so when Helene sent me a text to
go to Syntagma, I thought I should go to see what all the fuss was about.
The closer we got to the square, the more the air was filled with harassing agent ("traangas" in Dutch). We all started to feel it in our throat and eyes so we really couldn’t go much further. A friendly protester saw we were having problems so he offered us a gel type substance we had to put around our eyes. This helped a lot, we couldn’t feel anything anymore and with something before our mouth we could go further.
In the next street we saw some police officers crossing the road and protestors started throwing rocks at them (correction, marble, because that is easier to find here in Athens:p). I really didn’t feel comfortable anymore (I’m such a pussy:p) but we went further to Syntagma square. We heard them throwing Molotov cocktails at the opposite side of the square and people started coming our way, so we just made sure we got out of there and went in some small streets where it was pretty calm.
This was a quite calm day of strikes apparently, the next day was very bad. I didn’t go
then (I had seen enough😉 ) but some other people did and there was a lot more fighting.
Thursday (21-10-’11)
In the morning, we had to go to the university to register for a transportation card (yes, yet another card). I think by the time we actually get it I’ll probably be back in Belgium but we’ll wait and see:p
We went to Monastiraki with some girls to look at the small souvenir shops, it was a calm day so we were hearing “beautiful girls”, “nice Belgian people”, “students, you can get half off” a lot that day. We wouldn’t be girls if we didn’t take advantage of that:p I actually just bought some earrings for my niece which I’ll give her at Christmas, so sssht don’t tell Lauren😊
I ate a pita for dinner, I hadn’t eaten one for a long time because I had a bad one at Mykonos but now I was in the mood again:p
I went with Laura to a tattoo shop to ask for prices and they told her she could come in the evening if she wanted to. I didn’t expect her to actually say yes but she knew she wanted that
tattoo for a long time so she made the appointment.
In the evening, I went with her and now she has “without struggle there is no progress” written across her collarbone. It’s a very beautiful tattoo but no worries, I’m not thinking about getting one (I’m a pussy remember😉 ).
Later, we went to drink something at Lora and Laura’s place and to jojo bar afterwards.
Sunday (23-10-’11)
We woke up early to take the bus to Corinth. When we arrived there we had to take another bus to the old city, but of course, that bus does not ride on Sundays. After dwelling around for a while we decided to just take a cab there.
It was beautiful to walk around the archeological site and we went to eat something afterwards. We decided to take a cab to the Corinth canal as well because we knew we could take the bus to Athens from there.
The canal was pretty impressive to see, it’s very small and deep. You could even bungee jump from the middle but I couldn’t even look down for a long time on the bridge, let alone actually jumping off of it!
In the evening
I skyped with my sister, mom and dad, and joséfine and Carole. It was fun to talk to everybody again😊
Monday (24-10-’11)
I met Laetitia at 9 o’clock to go to the market, I bought meat and fish there for the first time. Afterwards I cooked spaghetti sauce for the first time, it tastes pretty good so I’m glad I didn’t waste my afternoon:p
In the evening we went to Lora and Laura’s place to have dinner, the made spaghetti carbonara and we all ate way to much because it was so delicious!
Afterwards we all went to jojo bar for a while to celebrate Jacqueline’s birthday.
Thursday (25-10-’11)
I had some classes and at noon, I went to dinner with my buddy Akis. It was so good to see him again!
After my classes I went to buy the ferry tickets to go to Santorini with Didier, I’m so excited to go there!
Tonight, there is a preparty at Werners’ place and afterwards we will probably go to Gazi😊
Tomorrow Didier is arriving, I can’t wait!
