Today we continued for 250 rural kilometres eastwards to The Harz Mountains, Northern Germany’s only serious uplands. We are staying at a quiet camper stop with very pleasant and helpful owners in the small village of Darlingerode just outside the town of Wernigerode.
The Harz were on the border between the East and West during the Cold War and the East Germans maintained a steam railway network. Wernigarde is the terminus for the line which goes to the top of the Brocken at 1140m the highest point of the area. We plan to ride it tomorrow.
