I'm staying with Alex and his family on the outskirts on Leipzig. They own a trucking business but also have numerous other side businesses including horse drawn carriage rides which are popular with schools in the district.
Some carriages can take 6 people and others up to 20. These are pulled by 2 or 4 horses out of their stable of 8, that they have on the property.
The horses are extremely well trained with verbal commands given, enabling them to stop, slow, go faster and even back up the carriage into the area where it is housed. They are trained to travel on the road with traffic around them, and they do not even flinch when they see rabbits and deer run out of the fields.
We went on a 3 hour carriage ride complete with guitar, beers, sandwiches and had a great time meeting neighbours and friends of the family along the way. The day ended in the horse area with a few drinks and a lovely sunset.

Earlier in the day we visited the Bach museum in Leipzig. This is situated opposite StThomas church which was the main church where JS Bach was the organist and composer

His grave in the church
and also 1 week out of 4 had to supervise the chorisiters at their boarding school. A task he did not excel at apparently.
The grave containing the remains of Bach are in this church but little else remains of when Bach was playing there. The site dates from the 1100's but with many rebuilds and changes.

The museum is one of the best I have visited with many interactive stations such listening pipes, an area where a whole orchestral piece can be heard and you can go to a specific spot just to listen for the particular instrument in that piece, listening stations where many Bach works can be chosen from to listen to and many others wonderful innovative exhibits. English and German throughout and soooo worth a visit.
