What a great birthday party yesterday! At 5 the whole family met at Stroiers (sp?), a local restaurant/bar. Down in the cellar is the Kegelbahn (Kegel lane). It was soo much fun to play again. Kegeln is sort of like bowling (but quite different too). The lane starts out skinny and then gets wider at the end. Instead of 10 pins, there are only 9. The balls are smaller and there are no finger holes. There are a variety of different games you can play. We started off with kinda the norm... every player gets three chances to knock over as many pins as they can after each ball all 9 pins are set again. Next we played Tannenbaum (Christmas Tree). We divided ourselves into two teams. Each team had to then get rid of all the numbers on their tree by knocking down that number of pins in one turn. (1 -1, 2- 2s, 3-3s, 4-4s, 5-5s, 4-6s, 3-7s, 2-8s, and 1-9). It really is fun. Unfortunately my team lost. The last game we played was house number. Each player got three balls. However many pins they knocked down in each turn, they had to decide whether they wanted the
number at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end (depending on if we were playing high or low). We had a great time playing.
After that we went upstairs for dinner... oh it was delicious! The restaurant served very typical German dishes. Yummy Yummy Yummy.... After dinner we came back to Oma's place. That's were most of the fun took place. hehe.. Without Oma knowing it, we had hung a row of balloons in her living room. Inside of each ballon was a rolled up piece of paper with the name of a gift for her. They were gag gifts. It was hilarious. For example, when she got the paper that read "Candel - light - dinner at place of your choice" Maike and Franzi brought out a can of peas with a tea light candel on top. hehe.... or "one person home" they brougth out a snail shell... They had about 20 of those gifts. It was hilarious!!! hehehehe In the last two balloons, however, were her real gifts. In one was a gift certificate for a full body massage. Oma was quite suprised. She's never had a professional massage before. =) She loved the gift.
The last gift she opened was very emotional for everyone, but especially for her. Her kids had taken Opa's wedding ring in (he passed away this past year) and had it altered to fit her and had a special stone put in it. The ring is gorgeous. It was the best gift anyone could have given her.
The rest of the night was also a blast. Papa came in later dressed like a French painter and spoke German with a very good french accent. He painted pictures with people. It was absolutely hilarious! The party got a little crazy later with dressing papa up and putting make up on him. lol... you'll see what I mean when you check out my pictures. It was a great night!
I have to get going now... Juli is coming over for a bit pretty soon. Take Care! Ciao!
