I have read your experience in Mgange Dawida and surely you had a wonderful time. Your mother was once my teacher in class three at then Ngangu lower primary school(now Mwakiwiwi Secondary school). She is a very good mother/teacher;name it.My home is just across the valley overlooking the stony mountain(ref the family farm photo). Remember to come back. Welcome.
Thanks
Welcome Back. I have read about your expirence in Mgange Dawida and thought you must have had a wonderful stay. I come from near that place which is called Mwanda. You remember seeing Vuria (highest point)? Thats where I hail from. Thanks
cover Hi rachel,
Am sorry for the awful experience. It just that when the locals see a mzungu(white) they think that you may need their company coz most mzungus do that.
about the buibui, it is a muslim attire, the colour and its size is made to cover the beauty of the woman and the locals know and understand that any woman putting on one is trying to get respect so thats why they keep away from the muslim woman and give them their respect.it covers any body curves, bossom, hips, ass oops did i say that? hair e.t.c. so actually the man has nothing to look at hehehehe.
since you are leraning the culture you could encompass even the religion, just try putting on a bui bui and walk with muslim ladies and you will notice how the men will really appreciate that. you will get to move around in peace and study in peace. the whole clothing is called HIJAB and arab word meaning a cover. something that can protect you from harm.Fatma

Pattersons Camp Just got back from a trip that included Patterson's Camp. It was the best place we stayed. Low cost, great food, hippos in the river..... If you get a chance to stay there, take it!
IT IS PRUDENT TO SPEAK GOOD OF PEOPLE Thank for your generous comments about Kenya. It is un common to see people say anything good about Africa. What baffles people with common sense is, where do people find all animosity to speak ill of 800million people.
Bye Rachel! Sounds like you had a wonderful time during your stay in Kenya. I hope your presentation goes well in Nairobi. And have a safe trip to Germany! Can't wait to see you in a few weeks!! Love, Nora
It must be difficult... ...to leave the friends and family that you've developed. I'm sure they will miss you. I don't even KNOW you and I know how much I enjoy reading your blog.
Be safe.
Erinnerung ?!?!?!?!

Rain? Silly me, but I thought it didn't rain very often there. I think I expected you to say that everyone was amazed and celebrating and stuff. Like if it were to rain in Arizona nowdays.
Interesting comments on the politics... I wonder why they don't just get new people into power?
WOAH Wow Rachel, That souns crazy. Im so glad you are having fun, those boys sound really pushy, they just wanna hang out with a sweet girl like you!!! (Can you really blame them?!) Im glad you stand your ground, it sounds like you handle every stituation that comes to you with poise. Miss you!!
WOW.... Sounds like you had an exciting time. It is indeed amazing the different ways that cultures look at faith, personal space and 'relationships' :)
Have fun!
Hi there Hi Rachel. I finally got your blog address just in time to learn about your encounter with "beach boys" MMM that name makes me think of over the hill CA singers! Wish I could join you and help fend them off. Not that I would be much help. Anyway I have your site now and will try and keep in touch.
Shalom
anonyous dressing & safety Rachel, I've never met you other than here, but I got that same lump in my throat as if you were a child of mine. (silly... i know)
Even though it's easy to worry about safety, don't let it color your stay (too much, at least). I can definitely understand the quick flash of desire for a bubui (was that it?) Sometimes men don't understand the vulnerability of simply being female.
It sounds like you handled it very well. I wisn you continued safety and the presence of mind to listen to your intuition and stay safe.
I'm just a lover of traveling. I'm no longer traveling quite as often as I used to or would ideally like to, but I still get to do some globetrotting occasionally. I hope you enjoy bouncing around the globe with me. =)... full info
