Biene und Bjorn Borg!
We have survived the first day of Karneval!! It all started at noon at the Cleverbridge office for brunch, mimosas and Kölsch, which is the only beer they serve during Karneval, it's a tasty light beer with not a lot of carbonation. We consumed that beer for about 12 hours and remarkably did not get full! Very nice! We left the office after about an hour to meet up with more people at a bar called Brauhaus K.A. Pütz, which wasn't quite open yet, so we drank a beer on the street corner while we waited. We definitely brought the party, but it didn't take long to fill the place up. There are a lot of bars that open pretty early but if we would have gone to one of those we would be waiting in line for an hour or two and then once inside, you can barely move. This was a nice start to Karneval, but the Germans we were with said it's not a normal start. After about 3-4 hours at the Brauhaus, we headed to another bar called Arkadia, where some of our German friends were already at. There was not a line, but it was really

packed inside. We found a nice little corner and hung out and then went further back to the dance floor and let loose! They were playing the classic German Karneval songs that every bar plays, but they were playing other dance songs that we knew so I (Meg) was happy! We ended up staying there the rest of the night, slowly losing one German at a time. We headed outside and while trying to figure out the next move, we were each handed our own side of fries that were topped with a ton of curry ketchup and mayo, courtesy of our American friend/co-worker, Batko...score! Nothing like french fries after a full day of consuming beer! Kinda weird with the mayo and curry sauce, but kinda delicious! We then were on our way to Sheinbar, a favorite of ours, when the sounds of a drum circle made us flock to this archway where there were people going crazy! Aaron had found his people, and on any other day I would have been hippie dancing with the rest of them, but A: I had to peeee and B: I was a tired and drunk lil Bee (or Biene, in German) So

after a few drum songs, I went home, and the guys went to Sheinbar and had some great drunk conversations about the wonder of the internet and the meaning of life 😊. Got a ton of sleep, and then went to lunch at a place called Culux, which specializes in Sausages and curry sauces..Aaron and I opted for their veggie tofu sausage, which was pretty good! So now it's almost time to gear up for another crazy night...Til next time...
