Balcony
Our balcony.. ish. not very big, and the door currently wont open, but cute. Hello from Hamburg! Bryan and I arrived yesterday and have been so busy ever since! Yesterday I had no phone or internet so it was rough, but today was soo much fun and better with a connection to the outside world. Our buddy Stephen picked us up at the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and from there he showed us our rooms in the hall. We immediately went out to dinner at some Turkish place, and it was really good. I had a 1/2 chicken and fries, and they werent lying about the half chicken. it was literally, half a chicken... one leg, one arm.... but it was good. The fries actually tasted exactly like a place on campus (International for those who know) which makes sense, because they are both Turkish places. We got back I guess around 11:30 and unpacked until about 1:30, then went to bed.
This morning we got up around 10, showered and got ready, then Bryan surprised me with info that Joe was coming to meet us! I was obviously extremely excited. We left the house and just started walking.. and walking... and it was actually nice. It randomly snowed very hard, then nothing, then
My bed
My bed, with some shelves at the head.. sun, then extreme snow again, and so on. No accumulation, it was pretty sweet and gorgeous to watch without any consequences. We went on a cell phone search for Bryan and Joe, then walked some more until we came to das Rathaus (Parliament and such..) which was naturally beautiful. Across the street is a megamall called Karstadt which is truly amazing. I believe it had about 5 or 6 floors, with a pharmacy at the very bottom, followed by a food market, then floors of regular shopping. There I found a place to get my E Plus refill card (gottseidank). I actually had a full conversation with the Verkaufer (sales guy) in German, and we successfully understood each other- i was very relieved and happy. He assured me that my German was still better than his English. We ate lunch in a really nice italian restaurant in the mall, and it had a piano player playing older american pop music which was really nice. The waiter obviously spoke German, but with an italian accent so that made things veeeerrry interesting on both ends.
Later we went shopping for everything to pillows, to toothpaste, to pens and paper. Much money,
My closet
My closet.. i forgot to take a picture of the inside, but its normal. The bar is my height I love it! all necessary unfortunately. Can't really get much out of sore necks in the morning and no pens to write notes with... yeah. By the time this was all over (around 6ish) we were exhausted, and on the way back we ate at a pizzeria called Joey's. It was pretty good, we orded 2 pizzas- one with onions, barbecue sauce and something else (i obviously didnt touch it haha) and the other with just salami. Apparently they dont do pepperoni here... not sure. But I actually ate the salami and it wasnt bad at all, something I could even get used to. It looked alot like pepperoni, I was surprised it wasnt. Oh yeah- and over here they eat pizza with forks and knives....
We decided to take the U Bahn back, and thanks to Joe, we actually made it. When we got back to the house we chilled out for awhile, then met up with Mike downstairs and talked for awhile. We made plans for tomorrow to make a trial run to Colonnaden so we arent late for school on monday. Later on we split ways and Joe and I watched " Groundhog Day" in my room. Despite my
Common Room
Part of the common room, its really cute. usual hatred of romantic comedies, I will admit it was a cute movie. We thought it was appropriate to watch, considering it is actually groundhogs day. Joe will be with us tomorrow also as we work our way to Colonnaden. If its open, we also want to go to the train station to buy our BahnCards for the month. We'll see.. from what Joe tells me, on Sundays everywhere is like a ghost town... I guess im not in the land of the Jersey 24hour/7 days businesses anymore. We also plan on having our superbowl party.. Bryan is buying the game off ESPN and we're gonna watch it on the computer. We need to watch the Pats lead us into victory, again. We thought about all chipping in for a TV, but yeah... we dont need to pay the TV tax. Yeah, you get taxed monthly to use TVs.... not very nice. Well hopefully tomorrow I will have even more pics put up... until then.. Im going to bed.
Love, J
