Status report: It is 0612hrs CET. The train is whizzing through rural Germany en route to Berlin. I am sitting on the top bunk in a small but well appointed cabin.. The night was spent dozing amid the sounds of a high speed loco doing it's stuff!! What more can I say. Slightly dazed but ready for a strong "uber coffee"

Weather update: Looked grim earlier at Hanover but now brighter with sun coming out:

People Update: The cabin next to ours is a deluxe version with shower and wc whilst my feet are sticking out of the window! It was occupied by an elderly "po faced" couple from the Midlands who crashed about at 0530am in readiness for their breakfast. Why are older people so organised. I think they are on a Great Railway Holiday who book out the best seats for their upmarket and discerning clientele. Anyway they got off at Hanover in the rain.
