July 23, 2023 – Eagles Nest
I wake up the morning sun light is reflecting off the mountain into our room. I feel this gentle touch nudging me. Wake up we are leaving in an hour with or without you, wow is that my loving wife speaking to me? YES! Ok, I hear you without even having my hearing aids in. WOW! talk about an alarm clock.
I’m up showered and dressed in under 30 minutes. I get to the breakfast table and Caroline is just now getting up. What’s up with this?
At breakfast Kirsten reviews today’s agenda. It’s as tight and regimented as yesterdays, not that I’m complaining.
First, we are visiting the
Eagles Nest our tickets are for 10:30 AM. NOT, 10 AM and NOT 11 AM but 10:30 AM. We are standing in our position at 10:29 AM along with all the other Germans, watching all the Americans totally confused as to WHEN, WHERE, and WHAT to do. So sad. We promptly get on the bus, and it leaves, when you ask? You guessed it correct 10:30 AM.
Now this is cool; the busses taking us up the entry into the Eagles Nest
are all electric. In the past, they have always been diesel. Now, they are totally electric and just like the old busses but quite and clean. Pretty cool.
Once you’re off the bus, you walk through the man-made entry tunnel to the elevator and then you are whisked up to the top of the mountain in a very fancy elevator.
As you come out of the elevator, you take in the vista. After an hour of walking around and climbing on the rocks and taking pictures, we have lunch. Now we go down in the elevator, we get on our bus at the exact scheduled time, and we glide down the mountain on the electric busses.
We make our way back to the car and off we go to the
Jenner. We don’t have a set time for the Jenner because it’s doesn’t require advance ticket purchase. What!
Off again we go, we ride up the Jenner on the gondola. Once up top we have a beer, played some cards, and scoped out the hiking path that takes us to the top. It’s a 30-minute hike up to the top of the mountain. We made it
and we touched the cross.
We get back to our cute house around 6 pm and everyone freshens up. We spotted a Biergarten on our way to the house and decided to have dinner there. Well, so did everyone else.... the Biergarten was packed the band was playing and bier was flowing.
We had a wonderful dinner and were back to our house around 8:30 PM. One round of cards and then we’re off to bed.
Tomorrow, we going to see Salzburg, yes, the Sound of Music. The hills are alive......
Off to bed we go, tomorrow begins our next adventure.
Good night
