Where in the world is Suzy? She is on the road again heading home. We got up and tossed about the idea of going into Vienna. We had already dismissed Bratislava on the way as the pull of home was coming on strong. So this was one of those 50/50 things. We had missed the 8.06 train and there was none now for an hour. Should we hang about or just give up and see how far across Germany we could get? Or brave Vienna. . It didnt take long to make our minds up. We headed off with no destination in mind other than home. We crossed and criss crossed the Danube many times before we crossed the border into Germany. On many of the bridges were statues of lions. It became for Sion a hunt the lion day. He is used to hunting out latrines and manhole covers to share with his best friend Woolly so today was a new game to while away the long drive down German motorways. What was good though it was Sunday and Sunday equates to no lorries on the roads.
.What is clear though is the fact that Autumn has really come
around in this part of Bavaria. The trees are displaying the most plummiest of plum colours, the deepest crimson I have ever seen, the yellows and gold are luminescent and the bronze equal anything that we see back home. In fact we thought they gave the American fall a run for its money. Not that we have been lucky enough to see the Fall. It was splendid though and photographs did it no justice in any way shape or form.
On our way to our night stop we came across yet another slow traffic jam caused by the police and the army stopping traffic. They checked number plates and looked at some of the cars . We were waved through but what is happening in Europe these days. Security is most definately stepped up of late.
Our campsite was a new one near to Bad Abbach. We crossed the Donau or Danube to you and me we saw yet another lion and a mermaid in stone gazing upon the dammed water beneath her. Camping Freizeitinsel was our home for the night . . As we had no intention of visiting anything we didnt mind the fact it was
out in the sticks. With time it will grow and develop. The family had built a new house and reception on what must once have been their farm. They had terraced the fields and planted trees which over the years will mature and give it a little more character. The mother was standing outside having a cigarette but came in as I approached . ACSI 20 euros with tax. She issued me with a card for the toilet block for which I paid a 20 euro deposit. Once I went inside I could understand why. New and very impressive. I ordered bread for the next morning . If there was anything that could have been improved it was the fact that it needed a restaurant . We had to eat what little I found in Suzy's meagre cupboard supply.
We spent the night cleaning her out. Glenn cleaned the scratches from the outside windows where she had brushed against the hedgerows. . I brushed and polished and tried to make her respectable. She is a tidy van considering she has covered a fair few miles along the way. We felt a little guilty thinking of selling her. She has been our friend for the last five and a half years but it seems the right time to make a few changes. The guilt will not go away that easily though.
We slept well and got up late , a slow and simply pleasant experience of eating hot croissants and drinking coffee before I paid up and we left for our next long days drive . Tonight we will probably sleep in Holland .
Sadly there are no photographs of this part of the journey home. I have had to raid the older ones from the start of our 2017 Italy/Hungary trip.
