Roman ruins of Lugdunum
(Tuesday Temp. 10deg. Overcast)

Breakfast in the hotel restaurant with the 'breakfast nazi'. Walked up a very big hill to Roman ruins of Lugdunum. Then to Basillique Notre Dame de Fourviere, very ornate, high up on the hill, great view, St Thomas' chapel beside had gold statue of Mary on bell tower. Walked down heaps of steps to Cathedral St Jean, like a smaller Notre Dame in Paris. Crossed River Saone on Pont Bonaparte to Place Bellecour. Walked down Victor Hugo mall to Place Carnot then long walk back to hotel. Discovered some shops near us, bought baguettes for lunch, ate in our room, lobby busy & no barman again. Went for a stroll at 5pm after getting a drink at the bar with great difficulty (raining again!). Stopped at supermarket again for goodies & little plastic bottles of wine. Watched a movie in English! "The Grifters".
