Monday 26 May 2008 We had a sparrows fart start from Raynes Park, 4:15 our taxi arrived to take us to Heathrow. After a very short hours flight, we landed at Charles de Gualle - PARIS! Not knowing any French it was a little bit of a mission to finally get our tickets into town. With those in hand we went straight to ROLAND GARROS. We luckily hit short queues and after 2 hours were inside trying to spot some famous people. Much to H's delight some kind security gaurds let us into the Lenglen court to watch ROGER FEDERER warming up...😊😊 What a way to start a holiday! After drooling over him a while, we made our way around to the different courts and saw many other players. Then in true european fashion the rain came down... it was such bad timing as we had just got a free ticket to see Rafael Nadal on the main court... but the rest of the day was well worth it!
We left the Tennis with the masses through the rain and mud, carrying our heavy backpacks, which were such a pain in the ass. After getting lost on
our way to our hotel and stopping at some mighty dodgy stations, four trains later, we finally arrived there to be told we were not on their list, and there had been a problem with our booking AND there were no rooms available for the night. Once our temper had cooled, they finally made arrangements for us to stay at a hotel just down the road...The Hotel Modern, but for one night only. This was actually well situated cause we found the Moulin Rouge and some very interesting night life and shows. Before we knew it, it was after midnight and the end of our first adventurous day in paris.
Tuesday 27 May 2008 We woke up to a delicious French breakfast of croissants and baguettes, and couldn't resist sneaking some extra in our bags for later. We had to move out of our cute little hotel, and mission back to the first one where we dumped our bags and headed for the Tour Eiffel! Arriving at one of the most amazing structures, we were utterly flabbergasted at the sight of it and got into the queue to climb it. What felt like a million stairs later
we were two-thirds of the way up and loving the views over Paris. We then took the lift to the very top and very nervously spat off the edge😊 The views, over 300m up were phenominal and unforgettable. Not wanting to tear ourselves away from the views, we had to trek down to the bottom to join the millions of tourists on the Champ de Mars to take hundreds of photos.
Tree is the best map reader and after navigating our way to the Arc de Triomphe, we walked under the worlds most craziest traffic circle to marvel at yet another awesome, old and beautiful structure in Paris. From there we marched down the Champs-Elysees, which went on for miles and eventually we found ourselves at the Louvre. This worlds largest museum with it's pyramids was again amazing! We walked around some more and more and our aching feet took us back to our hotel, where we had a room😊
We had an unintentional nap, but soon started our evening sight seeing. We found one of many cute, cosy little restaurants where we had some pizza and wine before doing a bit of shopping along the cobble stoned
streets and making our way to the Sacre Couer. After our tour of the beautiful church, we joined everyone else who sat on the stairs to soak in the views of Paris and watch the night fall. When the sun finally went down at 10pm, we watched the tower sparkle, which only haoppens every hour on the hour for a couple minutes. A great end to a fantastic day 2!
Wednesday 28 May 2008 Another yummy brekki and we were off, backpacks and all, back to the Eiffel Tower to meet our cycle tour guide. We got on our 'Sound of Music' looking bikes to do our own, mini Tour de France!! We found this far more enjoyable than a red bus tour, even though it was nerve racking cycling amongst the traffic on the wrong side of the road! Four hours later and full of interesting facts and sights we went back to Napoleans Tomb and the Musee Rodin to see Paris' second largest gardens with hundreds of different roses and statues. We then bought some delicious crepes (again) and joined the crowds to chill for the afternoon with the view of the tower.
We were amongst some wierd tourists and funny guitar players as we did our last bit of snapping away!
Much to our sadness, it was time to make our way to the airport... The 40 minute flight turned into 30 extra minutes of circling (at least we got a drink and 5 extra cheese wraps) then we had to wait an hour for our taxi, eventually arriving home really late and VERY tired!
Despite the delay, we were more than happy to have had the most amazing, fun, enjoyable and unforgettable holiday in Paree!!!
