30 September 2017 We drove 50k further east almost to the German border and a campsite in the City of Strasbourg.
It started raining in the early afternoon, the first we had seen since leaving Ypres, but our spirits were not dampened and we took the handy bus and tram into the centre and were amazed at the number of half-timbered buildings of all shapes and sizes flanking the plazas and narrow streets of Grand Île, the island formed by two branches of the river Ill. The area is dominated by the cathedral with its 142m high intricately carved spire. We sheltered from the rain by having good look around its impressive interior.
