Cannes
The view as we enter Cannes 5th - 10th October
We arrived back to Port Napoléon on 5th October. We had some work to do before leaving and continuing our sail.
Tuesday 7th October
Finally we departed Port Napoléon and sailed to Pointe du Bon Renaud. On the way Lars saw a submarine just going into Marseille. The weather has turned chilly at nights but has been warmer in the days.
Our journey so far: Pointe du Bon Renaud
Port de Mandelieu - La Napoule
In Port de Mandelieu - La Napoule we were very fortunate in visiting with a lovely couple Per and Louise. It was Louise’s Birthday which is why they were in France at this time. Per came to the harbour to collect us and we had a lovely evening with friends. Louise and Per had made a lovely dinner which we got to share with them. We had hoped to meet up with Eric (Lars brother) and Ann but they were delayed and would be in La Napoule the next day. We could not wait because of the time so maybe next time we will meet up with Eric and Ann.
Thursday 9th October
Cannes - Rade de
Cannes
We decided that it would nice to check Cannes so we moored early in the morning and went ashore. We visited the old town and had a look around. The houses are so close together that you could just open your window and talk to your neighbour across the way, even touch each other it’s that close.
We didn’t stay very long as we need to be near Nice to pick our friends that are going to sail with us for 8 days. We ended up having a very nice lunch and then departed at 25.30pm.
Arrival Villefranche - Anse de l’Espalmador: 18.20pm
It’s been so difficult getting a berth in any of the harbours along the coast. We thought that with it being low season it would be easier but it’s not. Every harbour is completely full and we figured out why. All the boat that their owners have left their boats in the Med, have left them in the harbour that have visitor berths. It works out cheaper especially in the french harbours, it’s half price in the low season so it makes it harder for any boat that is still going around
the Med to get any berths. We are hoping that it will be different when we get to Corsica.
With the problem of getting a berth we have ended up in the bay near Villefranche. It’s as close as we are able to get for our friends Jo and Chris that are arriving later tonight. Lars and I will go with the dinghy and hopefully it will be calm so that Jo and Chris that have never sailed before, have an easy time of getting in and on to our boat.
No problems at all. Everything turned out very well. Now Chris and Jo are with us and we are off to Corsica on 11th October.
