Farmer's Market
Old Town Farmer's Market Day 18 - Sunday It's Sunday and one-half of the group is now on the way back to Iowa. It's raining and we are not about to stay put in the hotel. Susan, Leah, Donna and I set out at 9:30 for Old Town to find the farmer's market, flea market, see castle hill and be back at the hotel by 1 pm for the trip to the perfume factory.
We made it to the farmer's market and marveled at the vibrant colors of the produce, wondering "where are they growing this stuff?" We shopped for a bit and then found a coffee house. We ate french waffles and had a great cup of coffee. Then we went looking for castle hill. Not sure what that is, but what I heard is you walk up the steep hill to see an awesome view of the city. So we walked and walked and up the hill. We got to the top and the entrance was closed. Not sure what we were looking for, but it was closed. We took a nice photo and back down we went.
On our way to down, we ran into a church. It turned
Rainy Day In Nice
Rainy Sunday In Nice, Ann, Donna, Susan and Leah Look for Castle Hill out to be a catholic church, neither a cathedral or basilica. I stayed for the rest of the mass and took communion. We ran into Dr. Meyer's brother David and his son Dale and daughter Shannon. Yes, you heard me right. Dr. Meyer's twin brother and family joined us in Berlin. They are a hoot. Back to the day in Nice.
Leah was the queen of shopping today, buying two purses. The rest of us bought small trinkets. Back to the hotel in time for the 1 pm trip to the Fragnoard Perfume Factory. Thirty of us took Dr. Meyer up on this side trip. The tour was brief and the bounty was large. Yes, they soaked the group and we all walked away with a little "something something" for ourselves and loved ones.
Back to the hotel by 4 pm. We took a 10 minute break and off we went to see the Russian Orthodox Church, Cathedral of St Nicholas, and a walk through the city park. By now our dogs are killing us. Donna and Susan's dogs are hurting so we took the moment to hail a taxi. This is the first taxi ride for me.
Another Rainy Picture
Rainy Day In The Park, Ann, Donna, Susan and Leah We were dropped off in front of the Cathedral. I had a special interest in seeing this beautiful church as it reminded me so much of St. Basils in Moscow. The entrance fee was nominal and the interior of this church was absolutely beautiful. Sorry, we could not take any interior pictures. Read more about this cathedral at
.
After our visit, we walked to the city park and came upon Notre Dame Cathedral. Boy another cathedral. We went in and had a look around. This is now three churches in one day.
Our final sight for the day, a walk through the city park. We made it back to the hotel in time to catch up with a group for dinner. Day 18 has been a very long day.
Off to pack and to bed. Tomorrow we leave for Iowa.
LongStory Short,
Ann
