Lets start at the beginning - the sweet little coastal town of Wimereux, a pleasant drive from Calais where we disembarked from the ferry. The first two photos are of this town, our first night in France... The next day we headed to Amiens to see the largest Gothic cathedral in France. It did not disappoint! We've included a photo of the exterior and interior of the amazing cathedral (Click on the photo tab for more pics...) Afterwards we drove to a secluded campsite, passing through grim Rouen at peak hour (thanks Sat Nav!), just past Elbouf. The nice wooded countryside is shown in the next pic, as is a snap of the charming exposed beam houses of this Normandy region. Our next stop was to see the Bayeux tapestry. The tapestry which is almost 1000 years old was incredibly captivating and well worth the visit. Bayeux also has an impressive cathedral, picture below... The area is also renowned for the D-Day Beaches. We visited the site of the Omaha landing which now has a staggering cemetery and memorial to commemorate lost US lives. The photo included does not really do the place justice. We also stumbled across some nearby older and more subtle memorials close to the remnants of German defence bunkers and artillery mountings. The cold, wet and windy weather was closing in as you can see! Trundling on, the next stopover was the picturesque Mont St Michel. Camping nearby we cycled through the freezing wind to experience this incredible abbey and (tourist) town. This blog ends with a few of the best shots from our day. Tomorrow the Loire region... Thanks for reading😊
