Today was a travel day in that we left Bordeaux to drive to Crocq (pronounced Cro). I forgot to mention yesterday that I had the pleasure of meeting Colette's daughter, Marine, and her 2 grandsons, Mathis and Oscar. J-F and Oscar baked a special type of cake from the Creuse region called le Creusois. It's a delicious cake made with hazelnuts! After breakfast, Jean-François and I went to the train station to pick up my rental car. It took us a while to find the agent because they are doing renovations around the station. We finally found the place and I got my car, a Renault Modus. I'll post a photo tomorrow of the car because I am doubtful it exists in North America. After we returned Chez Carrazé et Esperance, we took a drive around Bordeaux to show my mother some of the highlights of the city. It was a quick view and now she will have to return to see more! We had a nice lunch of pâté de campagne, rillette, salad and potatoes and duck legs. Of course we had wine as well! We left Bordeaux at 3:30 for the 4 hour drive to Crocq. The land changed drastically from mostly flat with vineyards to very hilly and forested with pastures for les vaches (cows). It is very beautiful country and the weather is much more like Calgary - very fresh air and a bit cooler than Bordeaux. We arrived in Crocq at 7:30 and had a little walk around the town. We came back home and had a nice dinner of a special dish of Crocq - pâte pomme de terre. It is SOOOOOO delicious and, of course, fattening 😊 It's puff pastry with sliced potatoes and sour cream and onions! MMMMmmmm 😊 Also, we had salad and wine (are you surprised? lol) After dinner we went into the village for a little walk about and we joined in on the Fête de Crocq festivities. Last night there was a procession from the church at the top of the town down to the fields at the bottom. It was preceded by fire works at the top and many of the townspeople were carrying large candles or lanterns to light the way. There was an African troupe drumming and dancing and they led the way down. Half way down they stopped for another round of fireworks and once

again at the bottom. It was interesting to be a part of the fun! The sky was totally clear as we walked home and the stars were amazing. The last time I saw so many stars was when we were camping in southern Alberta! We arrived back at the house about midnight and slept very well!
