Day 1
Me and my roommate, Caryn and our friend, Ben, on our abroad program went to Paris this past weekend. We flew into Paris Friday morning through AirFrance. We got in around 9:30am but we spent 2 hours in traffic on the way to the hotel. I had only gotten 4 hours of sleep so i was frustrated but once we were out of traffic it was fine. We got to the hotel, we stayed at Le Meridien. It was very very nice and everyone was so nice to us and helped us out a lot. The rooms were also very nice, beds were so comfortable. It was nice to be able to sleep on an actual bed instead of a cot like I have in Florence. It was also nice to not have to share a bathroom with 25 other girls that you don't know. We got to watch tv, in English. We watched the Days of Our Lives and some BBC. it's funny what you miss when you don't have it anymore.
After we checked in, we walked to the champs elysee which is the main street in Paris with all the shopping. We saw the Arc
de Triomphe which was neat to see since I have seen a lot before but not in person. It's in the middle of a round-a-bout so we didn't know how to get to it, but I took a lot of pictures of it. We took a metro to the Louvre, which looked more like a castle than a museum. We walked around that for a little bit, we saw the Mona Lisa and the most important paintings and sculptures. I want to go back soon though so I can spend a lot more time looking at the art and taking my time there. The inside of the Louvre looked more like a mall with a food court and gift shops.
After the Louvre, we went to Musee D'Orsay, another very important museum. It was right near the Louvre so it was easy to get to. We walked around there for a long time, until it closed. They had a psychedelia exhibit when we went. It had important album artwork during the '60s and it was based around music and psychedelic furniture from that time. More important though, it was neat to see the Monet paintings that I had only
seen in books. Also, the Van Gogh paintings were amazing to see. We saw a couple guys from our program in both museums, it was ironic that we were all there at the same museum at the same time.
After the museums we went to see the Eiffel Tower. I took so many pictures of the Eiffel Tower, it is incredible. The only annoying thing is is that it is a tourist spot so there were so many men trying to sell cheap souvenirs and you would get asked about 10 times in 5 minutes if you wanted to buy something. We went back to the hotel and got ready for dinner. We asked the concierge for a dinner suggestion near the Eiffel Tower and so we went to
