From The Ground
Since my delightfull trip to Fuerterventura in January/February it's been quiet on the travel front etc, trips up to Scotland have been
the order of the day, family things and a nostalgic trip to see old friends. Like last year with Brussels I decided there would be no
harm in taking up one of those great Eurostar Bargains and got a £59 return to Paris, leaving on Sunday, returnig Monday.

Took a budget hotel in the 'Gare Du Nord' area, where the Eurostar's come in, as long as you're kitted out for the Metro, it's a good
area to stay meaning you're near your main entry/exit. Recommend a ticket book of ten for the Metro, it's one of those systems, when you first try it, it's utterly confusing, then you get on, complete a couple of changes, and realise it's really as simple to navigate as the London tube, but with possibly, a better looking clientele😊

Weather was appalling on the Saturday, high wind and soaking rain, so looks at the 'obvious' like the Arc de Triomphe were really quick bursts before I got too soaked. In my view though that was a great day to go up the

Nortre Dame, lovely area.
'Eiffel Tower' Not such huge crowds, and the added spice factor of the wind making the thing rock like mad. Once on top it was genuine madness to go outside but just could not resist. Okay it meant the view was limited but It was really something to be atop such an old bit of metal being swayed like mad.

By the time I had done a few of these main sights I was almost struck with chill so had to return for a hot shower and lay on my bed wheezing watching CNN news for the rest of the night, not quite what I'd come to do.

On the Monday it was one of those fantastic super cold but sunny winters days and perfect for taking in a bit more of Paris. So after a spot of 'Le Petit Dejeuner' I sprinted around on the Metro again. In the sparkling sunshine 'Notre Damm' was a delight, as is the general area around it, river islands and bridges aplenty, little bars and cafes, and a welcome lack of road traffic. Quick snok at the 'Pompidou Centre' Iconic but perhaps not as such as it would of been back in the 1970s, then it was pretty much time to return to the Gare Du Nord.

I'll definately be returning to Paris, to dig much deeper, and that includes the Catocombs. You can really see what all the fuss is about the place.
