Day 3: Paris
Louvre
Well… we planned on waking up early but we were tired from the day before so we got up around 9 and decided to have breakfast at a café. Strong coffee—but good. After the walking from the day before… We decided to take the metro to the Lourve- both of our feet were killing us! We spent about 2 hours there- We saw the Mona Lisa… I feel like I should talk about it the way I talked about Starry Night… and I call it starry night but I don't think it's the real name- but I have to be me and be honest and say I don’t know enough about the Mona Lisa I think to get why it is so famous. I mean there are so many paintings and sculptures in these museums that are so detailed and exquisite…. Maybe it’s the simplicity of the painting… it is true about the eyes though- they do seem to follow you… we also saw the Venus statue and something else from Michaelangleo. And then we made our way to Monamarte to see the Sacre-Couer and the Moulin Rouge.
Sacre-Couer/Moulin Rogue/Arch D’Triumph
What a beautiful building.
We walked the steps to the top, the many, many steps to the top and again could see all of the city. We went inside and there was a guard there and any woman in a tank top could not go in unless she covered herself. Of course, that happened to be the day that I had a tube top on… I was hot and super sweaty and I put on Adam’s long sleeved waffle shirt to walk through the church. It was pretty. We didn’t stay too long. It was hot and Adam’s shirt was now sticking to me. The pictures from here are beautiful. We walked around a bit and found a café. Adam had a delicious meal… Veal and ham in an alfredo sauce. (His best of the trip he says) I had a colorful salad. On the salad’s in France there is little dressing… very lite and quite enjoyable. Another thing about dining in Paris I learned… it is VERY different from America. You sit down and when the waiter comes to you, they want you to order everything- your drink and entrée. Then they bring it to you at the same time and then they
don’t come back until they give you the check. You don’t have a drink, then order and appetizer, then order your entrée the way we do. Different. It’s a good different though. We went to the Moulin Rouge to order tickets, you just give your name and then show up for the show- that’s good for us since we didn’t end up going there. I have to say I wasn’t that impressed. The movie makes it look like this huge freee standing building and really it’s just part of other buildings on the street and happens to have a windmill. We realized that we didn’t even take a picture of it. We wanted to see a show there but it is so expensive.
We got back on the metro to go back to the city to go to the top of the Arch D’ Triumph. A lot more steps… again great views of the city and an amazing structure. 2 awesome sites with a hell of a lot of steps.
Lido
We went back to the hotel and showered up and realized that we could go to the Lido on the Champs D’Ellysses for less than half the
price. So that’s what we did. Travel tip- if you are going to paris and want to see their shows - go to the Lido and sit at the bar. It’s half the price of a ticket…. We ended up dead center with no one around us- everyone else was sitting at tables with other people and with the price of our ticket we each got a drink. If we would have went to the Moulin Rouge it would have been triple what we payed for the same quality of show. It was a good show… a revue… the female star had an excellent voice, although I didn’t understand it I did enjoy it. She sang a few songs in Enlgish- one was from Cabaret and that’s exactly what the show was- a cabart/vaudellive/burlesque show. Yes- there were boobies… but it was not overtly sexual in any way. As a matter of fact a lot of families were there- lots of children. There were also solo acts like these two super strong men who lifted each other- sounds weird but it was the coolest part. The floor dropped out and an ice floor came up and there were ice skaters-
then there was the guy we like to call yo-yo man…. He did this yo -yo type thing that I guess is big in France but he kept stopping and grandly putting his arms out to the side for applause. It got to be a bit much but we just thought it was hilarious. So… good show… not ground breaking… but glad we saw it… and glad we found a cheaper way to do it! Then we walked the streets, Fantastic day and evening.
