Wednesay 21st May - Finally had a sleep in today! Took my washing up to the Laundromat and then had coffee over the road and struck up a conversation with "Tommy" - an older Scottish bloke who has been living in Paris for 40 years. He was on the beers by midday and asked me to come up at 9pm to watch the soccer to which I asked if he would be on the turps for the next 9 hours... "slowly but surely" was his response.... Collected my clothes and started chatting to two American girls who reccommended the sites they had seen the previous day - specifically the boat cruise from Pt Neuf and the Arc de Triomph at the end of Champs Elysees Rd - which is famous for Paris shopping. I caught the Metro down to Concorde and strolled through the Jardin de Tulleeris gardens and past the Louvre Museum which is one of, if not the biggest in the world. The Mona Lisa is one of many famous pieces on display here. Crossed the Siene River and took a boat cruise up past the Eiffel Tower and then back down past Notre Dame. I now had a
Eiffel Tower 2
Night View - fortunate to get up the tower at dusk to see daylight and night views from the tower. Spent an hour and a half up the top - Amazing views of Paris better idea of what I wanted to see in Paris so got off the boat and caught the Metro straight up to the Eiffel Tower. I queued for an hour and spoke to two groups of American girls (they seem to be everywhere) and then went up to the halfway point, took some snaps and then up to the top! The second lift in the more narrow upper part of the tower was quite a challenge for someone who does not deal with heights all that well. Was fortunate to see views from the top during daylight, then dusk and finally at night - I was up the top for 2 hours to see all three perspectives watching Paris gradually turning on its city lights. Headed back to Pigelle and had dinner at the corner bar near my hotel and then bumped into David - who was in the African restuarant the night before. He asked me back for wine and Sandrina joined us whose mother cooks at the African restuarant - Sandrina is a 6ft tall African stunner with hair almost as long as her legs. Was great to see and experience French home setting and culture as we
all talked about politics, countries, wars and music for 3 hours. Home to bed at 3am.
