Disneyland Paris
Katherine, Papa, and Baby Simba in front of the Eiffel Tower at the It's a Small World exit. I’m gonna warn you in advance that the rest of this blog about our six day journey to France is entirely about Disneyland with the exception of a six hour trip into the heart of Paris. (And even when we visited the Arc de Triomphe, we went to the McDanlad’s nearby.) Okay, so this won’t be the best travel blog ever, but Katherine had a great time.
We checked out of the Novotel in the morning and headed for Disneyland. Then we checked into our Disneyland Paris hotel, the Sequoia Lodge. They had a meet ‘n’ greet character area near the check-in. Katherine went nuts when she saw Tigger and yelled, “My Tigger!” Unfortunately she urgently needed a new diaper, so we explained that she could see Tigger after we changed her diaper. She entered the ladies’ restroom with me, one hand holding mine, one arm still extended toward Tigger, and yelled, “Be right back, my Tigger!” FYI When you yell in a ladies’ restroom it’s really loud.
Anyway, the whole thing was very cute. After getting a fresh diaper we took Katherine to wait in line to meet Tigger, but before it was her turn, his shift was over and
Sleeping
Katherine sleeps while her parents consume an entire pineapple. he had to leave. Oh well, she didn’t care. She was happy just to watch him walk away.
We rode the shuttle to the movie studios. Well, really the shuttle just takes you to the train station and you walk another five minutes to the gates of the parks. Shuttles leave the hotel every 12 minutes, but after the first ride we decided just to walk from then on. The walk is only ten minutes.
The first ride we went on was the behind the scenes tram ride. Not a good first choice when you’re with a toddler, a 45-minute wait just to visit catastrophe canyon where they blow stuff up and dump water on you. The highlight for Katherine was when we saw a gate from the set of Dinotopia. There were pterodactyl statues on both sides of the gate. As we left, Katherine waved at them and yelled, “Bye, bye penguins, see you tomorrow!“ Afterwards, it was already time to eat. We had hotdogs. Katherine loves hotdogs, but not buns. So if you ever eat hotdogs with her, eat fast, because she’s gonna want to eat the meat off your bun when she finishes hers. After lunch we went to the animation exhibit/show. It was very nice. Some of the clips were in French, some in English, and some in different European languages. Fun for everyone to watch, but a dream come true for aspiring linguists.
After that it was time for the Disney cinema parade. Katherine got to kiss Elasta-Girl from the Incredibles on the cheek. Pretty sweet! Jealous?
Then we went to a show called Animagique starring an English-speaking Donald Duck and a French speaking Mickey Mouse. Scenes from different animated movies we acted out on a live stage. Very cute. But I think the French get ripped off, because Mickey only says about two things.
Afterwards Katherine fell in love with a baby Simba doll, so we bought it for her.
During October Disney Studios closes earlier than Disneyland, so we decided to go on to the Disneyland Park. The tricky thing about checking in at your hotel is that you can get your park passes early, but your room is not ready until after 3:00pm. So, Katherine missed her usual nap time. She did, however, fall asleep during dinner. We ate at the restaurant inside the Pirates of the Carribean ride. Very yummy. The appetizer was half a pineapple with some fancy stuff on top of it. Whoa! That was a LOT of pineapple. Were we supposed to eat it, or was it a giant garnish? We ate the fancy stuff. Then David decided to cut up the pineapples and we ate those too. We saved some pineapple in case Katherine woke up and wanted it, even though the waitress looked at us like we were crazy. We were sitting right on the waterfront, so everyone who rode Pirates of the Caribbean between 4 and 5 pm that day probably also thought we were crazy. But the fresh pineapple sure was yummy.
After dinner we rode the Pirates of the Carribean ride. Again, not the best choice for a toddler, but Katherine was fine. She didn’t cry or get scared, but she didn’t smile either.
Then we rode It’s a Small World. Now that’s fun for a toddler! Lots and lots of dancing, singing baby dolls. We ended our day by riding the Disneyland Railroad all the way around the park.
We got back to the hotel late and got our room. We were very careful never to turn lights on or off in front of Katherine, so she wouldn’t know where the light switches were. (She probably could have figured it out, but no reason to encourage her.) The bed was huge, so all three of us slept together. Well, all seven of us if you include Baby Simba, Baby Bear, Megan, and Polly.
