We woke up at 7:30am, Rola being the first to wake up and wake us all up (as usual). Soon we were ready for breakfast. The breakfast buffet was good. Variety of cheese, eggs (fried, scrambled, omelets), potato cubes, grape fruit and orange juice, toasted and French bread, tea and coffee, olives, tomatoes and other vegetables, pancake and maple syrup, all kinds of croissants and Danish pastry, sausages, bacon, jam etc.
I had scrambled eggs, olives, and potatoes. My friends, being the meat lovers that they are, had sausages and bacon along with everything else on the menu. I was surprised though that bro didn’t have any sausages or bacon. Anyway, we thought we’d have a good breakfast as we will be out all day and we might not have a proper lunch.
We headed to the metro station for the first time to reach Disneyland Paris. The station is so worn out yet the metro system seems so organized and efficient. We bought tickets to Marne La Vallee for Euros6.5. We had to take the metro till Nations station then we’d take a connection to Marne La Vallee. The ticket we bought included the connections. We later learned
that the ticket becomes void as soon as you leave the station and can’t be used later for another connecting trip (this was news for us coz we don’t have a metro system where we live!)
There were loooads of people on the metro and we could see they were all in a hurry..it was like everyone in the station was running and we were strolling down the station trying to figure out the map- TOURISTS MOOT! We had a couple of doubts which were cleared by some locals whom, inspite of the rush, they took the time t direct us to the right metro. So I thought hmmm the French are not so bad after all.
Of course we struggled with our French. The last time I ever spoke or heard spoken French was 10 years ago when I graduated from high school. One of our friends has just taken a French course last year so it was all still fresh in his mind, he could at least form the sentence faster than the rest of us. Lol
I was surprised though at the amount of vocabulary that suddenly came back to me while I was
there. I honestly didn’t think I’d remember so much..however, it took me time to construct a meaningful sentence. I have to say that the locals were really really helpful when they realized that we were making an effort to communicate with them in their language. They would speak slowly so we’d understand and sometimes they’d just answer back in English which was even better. However, when my bro and a friend of mine would start off in English with any local they didn’t get a desirable response. People just become adamant and refuse to reply in English.
The metro was quite comfortable and the trip wasn’t very long. It took a little more than 30 minutes to reach our destination, during which we amused ourselves by taking pictures of one another, observing the locals and looking out the window at the beautiful French scenery. There were trees and greenery everywhere, something which we miss where we live.
Arriving Disneyland at around 10am, we went straight to the pre-reservation desk, presented our payment vouchers (we have reserved a 1 day pass to both Disneyland Park and Studios over the net prior to our departure from UAE). It didn’t take
us long to get our tickets and soon we were INSIDE DISNEYLAND! :-)
We were greatly overwhelmed by the beauty of the place. It felt like we were in a different world altogether. I guess that’s the whole point of it! They designed it in such a way that you actually feel part of this magical world. There was music everywhere we went, as we walked down the streets there were cartoon characters signing children’s autographs and posing for pictures with excited kids. There were souvenirs shops on every corner..we couldn’t resist. We went into most of them and eventually bought something from every shop. T
hey’re definitely pricy but what the heck we’re in Disneyland for just a day and we never know if we’ll ever come back. Most of my souvenirs were purchased there. I mostly bought genuine disney key chains, pins, and mobile accessories. Also got myself a cute backpack:-)
We walked for a while before we started going for the rides. We started at Adventure Land where we took the Pirates of the Caribbean tour. Absolutely amusing!!
Later we went to the Indiana Jones ride which was a thrill ride. Being the coward that
I am, I firmly refused to go on the ride. My bro (forever wreckless) insisted that I accompany him and try it. I was soooo reluctant to go as I’m terrified of such rides (I’m afraid of heights). I don’t know what went into my head when I uttered the word “ok” and went with him, Ragy and Maher (Rola wouldn’t go: “over my dead body!” she said)
God! I was soooooooooooooooo terrified, I screamed like I never screamed before and I kept my eyes shut throughout the ride. It was a very short ride but it scared the hell out of me. My bro and friends were disappointed and thought it wasn’t thrilling enough. I came down the ride swaying right and left like a drunkard. Lol
Maher, Ragy and Rami went into another thrill ride Space Mountain:Mission 2. They loved it and said it was 10 times more adrenaline pumping than Indiana Jones (I thought thank God I didn’t go with them!)
We also got into Big Thunder Mountain ride which was worse than what I tried first and the last thrill ride we went to was Aerosmith’s Rock & Roller Coaster which was an absolute adrenaline
pumping ride. I LOVED IT!
Other rides that we have been o were “Honey I shrunk the audience” which is good fun for the kids, “Star Wars” I found it stupid, and the “Studio Tram Tour” which was mainly a tour of the Disney Studio with presentation of movies special effects.
Most of us didn’t have anything to eat. Then we had this GIANT Cotton candy for 3 euros which we could hardly finish. We just felt like we won’t want to eat cotton candy again for the next 2 years!
The Princesses parade was absolutely amazing and cute. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.
We left Disney at 6pm, so exhausted with an overdose of fun!
I can say that the place wasn’t so crowded. It was just fine; we never had to stand in long queues for any of the rides. The weather was perfect too, sunny and cool. I believe that timing of our trip was perfect where there are less tourists and the weather is just startin got get warmer. So I’d say this is one of the best times to visit Paris in general.
We arrived at the hotel at 7:30pm with the
My Room
I wish!! intention to take a shower and continue our evening tour. What actually happened is that we all fell asleep by 9!
