la tour eiffel
this is as close as I got when I was there Hello everyone! Paris and I are getting along well. I was a little concerned when I got here that I was too tired and worn out to really enjoy it. However, it may be the best way to see the city. Our first day here, we went to two museums and did a boat tour. A lot for one day. After that we decided to just relax and see where it took us. One of my favorite things about Paris is the people watching. All you really need is a cappucino and a good view at a corner cafe and you can be entertained for hours. The city has given us a good welcome and I feel very comfortable and at home here. Everyone has been very nice to us and in my opinion, we have met some of the most interesting and welcoming people here compared to the other cities we have been in. For the past two nights we stayed in a hostel dorm room with 6 other girls. So far I haven't minded this kind of living situation, however this place was pretty bad. The acoustics were so loud and you could hear everything. The last two mornings,
I have woken up poorly rested and grumpy because someone was making a racket at all hours of the night.
Today we moved to a hotel not far from where we were before. We have to share a bed, but at least we have our own room. I will need the rest for my long travel day home. I have to be at the airport by 5 am! I will end up taking a cab because the metro doesn't start that early. I am finally getting a hang of the metro system. It confused me at first, but now makes more sense.
Yesterday we went shopping. We didn't know any events that were going on in town, so we just happened to wander upon a gay pride parade. It was fun and interesting. One of the stores we were shopping in had a dj set up and people dancing right outside the door. It was a fun thing to stumble on. That night we were meeting up with some guys that we had met the night before (one of Amy's friends that she met last year) to go to a disco tech (aka club, in Europe "clubs" are usually strip joints!). We got tired of waiting for him to get ready so we went on ahead. We showed up at this place and get in, but the bouncer tells us that it's a gay night. We both shrug our shoulders and go in, hey we're here, right? It was one of the best times that I have had over here. The music was great, drinks were expensive (didn't have many, so I remember the night very well), and the guys take off their shirts! Plus you don't have to worry about getting hit on. We made it home safe and sound and got another horrible night of sleep.
Today we are going to Versailles, one of the largest castles in Europe. It has just started raining so we may get a bit wet, but it's been so hot here it will be a nice change.
I am excited to come home, but will also miss Paris. I think that I would be happy with another week here. I think that Amy is ready to go though. I am a little surprised that I have been so content. I have not had good sleep in...well not too long, maybe just since last week. The food here is of course wonderful, we found this great cafe around the corner that has wonderful cappucino and this yummy chocolate tornades, kinda like a pastry with chocolate. I think that I am gaining back any weight that I lost running around the rest of Europe. I would love to bottle everything up and bring it back with me, but my bag is only so big.
Tomorrow we will go shopping again! The end of June is their sale time, "soldes" is the french word for sale and is on all the windows. We have been finding some good deals (mom you would be proud!) and Amy has allready bought four pairs of shoes! I am still in search for a really great dress that I can wear to Billy's wedding, or just have beacuse I own maybe one dress, I know... some are surprised to hear even that. I also heard about Bright Eyes playing at a place but I don't know where it is, so I may look into that for tomorrow too.
Okay well, I am off to Versailles. I am excited to see everyone and share stories.
Lots of Love - Courtney

See you soon!
All sounds great in Paris. Glad that you recovered somewhat and are enjoying the sites. I'm sure staying in hostels must be interesting! Missing you, have a good trip home, maybe you can catch up on some sleep! Love, Mom
