Birthday Cake! This is my birthday cake! Axelle the Artist created this masterpiece!
Bonsoir!!!!!!!!!!!
First, I'd like to say a BIG thank you for the birthday wishes and comments. :) It makes my day to read a little piece of home. :)
I had to write today because somethings were just too good to wait until next week!
I woke up this mornng with so many birthday wishes and skype voicemails that made me feel so unbelievably happy and loved. After a few tears of joy, I got ready for my first Literature Class as a student with the students I work with. I'm very familiar and comfortable taking French classes at the University of Akron because it's with the same people who are all American. I was so nervous for my class today. The students see me as this confident person who speaks English with them and were about to see me at my weak point. The roles reversed! Anyways, I took my time getting ready, listened to a few love songs to calm me, ate a little too much bread for breakfast (oops), and hoped in the car so Vero could drop me off at the IUFM. We got there with 5 minutes to spare and I ran to
check which room I was in. My schedule said the class started at 9:30am...wrong. It started at 9:00. What did I do? I cried.
Yep! I cried because I was late! I ran in to the information office and told Brigitte (nicest secretary) what happened and she told me not to worry and that she would walk with me and tell the teacher why I was late. After I composed myself, I walked into class with everyone surprized to see me. Well one wasn't... IF you read my blogs before you know who I'm talking about...
Anyways, the majority of the students didn't know I could speak French so it was kind of neat! Class was 3 hours...well.. 2.5 hours for me.. She lectured about literature for children and read about 8 different versions of Little Red Riding Hood. So cute! I didn't know there was more than one version...
After class, I had lunch with my IUFM contact, Daniel who was the first person today to wish me a Happy Birthday! After lunch, I went home. I really didn't do much today...it was kind of nice! I relaxed all afternoon, watched Grey's Anatomy, and talked to friends!
CIMG0311Card, plastic, horse/unicorn, and laser from Axelle!
I didn't think my host family remembered my birthday, but as soon as I saw Alison she wished me a Joyeux Anniversaire!!!
So I went to my room after saying hello to Alison to watch Grey's and relax. A little while later her and her mom left leaving me alone in the house. They have a pretty intense alarm system which is only turned on when no one is home. Well, guess who turned it on as they left? My fam. Guess who stood up and was caught by the motion detector? Moi. Guess who almost peed herself out of fear with the sound of the alarm? Moi again. I SPRINTED to find my keys to turn the alarm off. Holy Moly...Alison never told her mom I was home! When they came back and "turned the alarm off" the system told them there was an intruder in the house. I ran out of my room and told them that the intruder was me. They asked me all these questions about someone breaking in, and who opened the door, etc. I kept stressing the fact that it was me in the house the whole time and NEVER LEFT! Sheesh, good
thing I didn't have a full bladder or anything in my hands!
When it was time for dinner, we enjoyed an aperatif with olives and crispy bread crackers. I was so surprized when they brought out presents and cake!!!!!!!!!! I had NO idea that they would do anything for me. :) I was able to open one present before dinner and the other after dinner. Axelle gave me her gift which was a homemade card, a horse/unicorn plastic thing she made, and a laser?! haha! She also assisted on the chocolate snowman cake that she covered in candy and outlined with whipped cream! It was DELICIOUS!!!!! It was like those Molton Lava cakes...where the inside is gooey. MMMMMMMMM my favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alison gave me her card which was beautiful and I opened my last girft that consisted of 4 French books! I was really excited because the only French books I've read are old literature books and these are modern! :)
Well needless to say, I had a great start and end to my day! I'm SO excited for this weekend because Jackie is coming to visit for my birthday!!!! We will celebrate Saturday night! EEEP!!!!
I hope you all are doing great! Miss you and take care!!
Bisous!!

Hi Alana!! I am just now getting to the computer to read your blogs..ive been a bit lazy but absolutely love hearing your stories. They really do make me laugh. but most of all they inspire me to follow my own dreams, and for that I thank you. You're accomplishing so much in your life it makes me tear up. I hope that you have the best birthday ever and that you and Aunt Lauren have a blast. I wish I could be there with you to celebrate. Enjoy yourself and drink lots of wine. :-)
Happy birthday a day late. What else would you expect of me. Gald you are having a great time. Love aunt Cindy and family
Hi Alana, Happy Birthday!! So sorry, time goes by so quickly. I have truly enjoyed your adventures. They bring a smile and a chuckle. Wish I could be there to join in the fun AND the wine. Tell me your favorite. I will buy you some, you may miss it when your home. Love Aunt Karen
Bonjour, I didn't know it was your birthday. Joyeux Anniversaire!!! I'm sure this is one you will never forget. What an "interesting" day. The French really are very thoughtful people, aren't they? And the books were a great idea. Alison must be a very sweet young lady it sounds like. I'm sure she's thrilled to have you there. I'm sorry I haven't written for awhile, but I was so busy with the reunion I was in charge of. I don't know if you remember that I plus 19 other girls started the Maison Francaise at BGSU when we were there. It is still in existence today. Our reunion was this past weekend in Goshen, Indiana and it turned out to be "formidable". And a good number of us spent our Junior Year of college together at the Institut de Touraine, right there in Tours. Maybe you've seen it. We had so much fun reliving our "memories" of La Maison and Tours. So all of these memories that you are making and experiences you are having will be with you forever. I don't think the IUFM was there when I was there. Where is it located? I'm really enjoying your blogs tremendously. Thanks for keeping them up. Take care and "amuse-toi bien ce weekend"!
Madame
