We had always planned to stay a couple of days somewhere in this part of France and today was our second day at St Jean de Luz.
It has been hard going driving for four days so it was with some relief that we found ourselves just relaxing for a day. Sometimes you cannot just keep moving on and have to make the decision to stop over. Aromadee is a nice place to while away a day or two.
Suzy had her boots anchored down, her awning out and pegged into the ground, her chairs were outside and her table out. The only thing missing the tablecloth . My fault I forgot to get that out.
We got up late having had our first lie in.Normally we wake early,. We are early risers due to work commitments but due to the days on the road we found ourselves sleeping in. It is surprising how tiredness from driving creeps upon you. Glenn can manage quite easily four days but after four days needs a rest from driving. So this is why we found ourselves not on the road. He has another long drive to look forward to tomorrow as
we cross the border from France to Spain.
Our first night wasnt a quiet night on site we could hear the motorway in the distance with cars rumbling all night. And then there were the trains which ran through the night probably from San Sebastian to France. Even I could hear them. They are not too noticeable in the daytime but in the quiet of the night it's a different thing altogether.
We ate a late breakfast. The idea of eating like a King in the morning always appeals when we are on holiday. At home I just dont bother with breakfast.
We had nothing to do all day apart from sit out in the sun. Sometimes that is nice. Our plans for going back into St Jean de Luz were forgotten after yesterdays marathon hike. Its a lovely place but a tad too busy for us. We prefer the quieter coves and beaches. We couldnt even muster the enthusiasm to get to the Tourist Office for 9 to buy our tickets for the trip to the fort. The fort will be there again if we ever return to this part of the world.
The temperatures
were well up in the 30's and we spent the morning doing a bit of shopping in the shop on site. It was not a big shop but had a reasonable selection of bread and tinned produce. We then sat reading and completing crosswords, uploading blogs and photographs and keeping Facebook up to date. . The Kindle had come out and I started to read the 4th Poldark novel again. Sometimes you just need to sit and chill out. We people watched our Belgium neighbours who sat all afternoon listening to French radio, mostly talking with the odd bit of french music. We were joined the other side by a Swedish motorhome and opposite and Austrian one.
In the afternoon a swim in the warm swimming pool. It has a childrens area and loungers around the side. The pool was relatively empty and I enjoyed swimming 20 lengths in the afternoon sun. The pool was a bit noisy later in the day as was the restaurant. It's a busy site but a good one. Everthing you could wish for was there.
Later in the day we headed off down the coast for a short walk. The Atlantic breakers
washing in with plumes of white surf. It is hard to imagine if you look out to sea Cornwall is out there somewhere and so is America. The very same Atlantic washes on both shores. Fishermen fished in the small harbour, we could see the fishes in the stream as it opened out into the sea. Topless young ladies worshipped the sun on the beach. We sat for a while eating an ice cream just enjoying our own company. Sometimes that's all you need.
Later the awning came in, the chairs packed away and packed up ready to get on the road again. It off to sunny Spain and Viva Espana.
