Hello everyone!!!
Hopefully I can keep up this once a week update about my adventures here in France. I’m so happy to hear you are enjoying my blog entries!
Friday was my first official day of teaching!!!! Last week I observed all the teachers and met all the students I’ll be working with this school year. It’s nice working at the high school and middle school because they are so different. The middle school kids had prepared lots of questions to ask me, like where I was from, why I’m in France, etc. One kid even asked me if I could sing the Star - Spangled Banner. I didn’t on the spot but maybe it could be a lesson and we could sing it together. We’ll see.
Friday morning, I met with the Terminale class, which would be our senior year of high school back home. They’re a nice group of kids. I was really nervous for my first day but I think it went well. I got to the high school about an hour early to make copies and prepare. It was just an introductory lesson to get to know them and their level of English but it was fun.
I only have 10 kids at a time. Friday’s class is two hours so I meet with the first half the first hour and then the other half the second hour. I was so exhausted after two hour s of teaching. Mom and Dad, I understand now what it takes to be a teacher!!!
Saturday, Franzi, Kate, and I spent the day in the town of Colmar, about a 15 minute train ride north of Mulhouse. It’s a very cute little Alsacien town and the houses and buildings are all so cute! I took lots of pictures! We ate lunch in a little restaurant called Schwendi, and of course had some Tarte Flambé. For those who visit me in Mulhouse, this is one meal you will all try! It is just delicious!!!! If you don’t know what it is, I described it in a previous entry!!!
Tomorrow will be my fourth Monday here in Mulhouse since I’ve arrived. Its crazy how time flies! Everything is going well and I’m enjoying myself. This coming Sunday October 19th I’m running a 10K race here in Mulhouse. Some of the other runners from my running club are doing it too so I think
it will be fun. Jean-Michel, one of my new running buddies, gave me the pamphlet for the race and said it’s a good one to do. I’m so excited!
I just finalized my plans for our first break at the end of October from the 25th of October to the 5th of November. Franzi, one of the other assistants and I planned a trip to Vienna and Prague from Friday October 24th to Thursday October 30th, so about 2 nights in each city! It should be fun! I’ve always wanted to visit these two cities so I can’t wait to start traveling!
Hope all is well back home!!! Keep the comments coming!!!
