Hrakecka Gate
my entrance into Trebon It looked a little overcast this morning, but I decided to venture out anyway. I'm going on a little side trip to a nearby village call Trebon. This involved catching the bus back to Ceske Budejovice then another one the 1.5 hours to Trebon. It was a pleasant ride through the countryside, but I as glad I had read in the lonely bastard that the bus did not actually head into the village center but stopped 1.5km out of town on the main road. There was a family on the bus also who were Czech but seemed to be tourists to the area also and took my chance of getting off at the same stop they did. This was a good guess and I walked the sort distance into the village center.
The village was nothing exciting really, it had a pleasant square and I walked around the surrounding streets in about 20 minutes and then I had seen it. So I guess it was time for lunch and a beer. Again consulting the lonely bastard I headed to a pub that was mentioned as having the best of the local fare, which was one of my favorites - trout.
Regent Beer
Trebon local beer The waitress came out and handed me a menu which had nothing written in English and she looked at me with a scared expression when I started to speak to her in English. Not to worry I knew one magic word 'pivo' and she smiled, nodded and mimed with her arms 'a big one'! Now it was my turn to smile and nod.
The waitress returned with my ice cold beer and as I could not make out anything on the menu that looked like the word fish or trout I did my mime of my own. Attempting to create the illusion that my waving hands resembled a swimming fish she could do nothing but laugh and uttered some words with more nodding and smiling. My mime must have done the trick as she returned shortly with a beautiful looking meal of trout on a plate .
With not much more to look at I decided to walk back out to the bus stop and get the bus back to Cesky Krumlov. The buses ran hourly so I did not have long to wait before my number came along, however the bus driver had different ideas and
lunch
delicious trout drove straight past the bus shop and me. Even though I was waving and almost jumping up and down trying to flag him down, to attract his attention. Well I did manage to attract his attention, but it did not register for him to stop. He just had this weird look on his face as if to say look at that strange tourist having a fit at the bus stop. Oh well only an hour to wait and I was glad that by the time the next bus arrived there were other passengers there to give the secret please stop signal to the driver.
Back at the hostel I met up with Lara an Australian girl also staying at the hostel and we walked into the center and had dinner together at a vegetarian restaurant with a very peculiar waiter.
