Since the last post we have basically been beach bums - mainly here at Tucepi but we did vist Makarska beach on Sunday - hard to find a spot to lie down!!! A beautiful vista though with the water and mountains right in front of you. For our last day - Monday - we decided to take a cruise. At Tucepi every evening around 6:45 a converted fishing boat came by with a crowd of waving, dancing tourists and loud Croatian music blaring. I wanted to do a cruise to the islands and Lenora decided that this was the boat. So on Monday morning at 8:45 we crowded onto this vessel and eventually found a seat next to a nice young couple originally from Bosnia-Herzegovina living now in Sweden. The view from the water was fantastic and shortly after leaving the crew started serving "medico" - white liquor that I did not dare try and red wine - that I did try a little later. The wine was served from Coke bottles! (Although I did taste a couple of good reds that came from wine bottles - just not on this boat!). By 10:30 the party was in full swing and by 11:30 we were eating a very nice meal of roasted fish - cooked on the grill at the back of the boat. The captain was an older gent who also fancied himself a DJ and played music non stop with commentary all the way out to the islands - everything from traditional croatian music to ABBA! He also entertained the kids by putting them in the captain chair and putting either a captians hat or pirates hat on them so their parents could take the inevitable pictures. We pulled into port at two islands - Hvar and Brac - with time for a couple of hours at Bol beach on the isle of Brac. We then meandered home along the coast and had beautiful views of secluded beaches and coves. We got back around 7 pm very tired but content and amused. Hard to describe but it was unlike anything I have ever experienced.
