The next morning, we got up very early, at 6:30 AM to have breakfast before going to Krka national park. After I had eaten half of my croissant, Anne found out that all the bread tasted like gas because we had been stupid enough to leave it during the night in the trunk of my car with the gas. That explained why my croissant tasted so bad...! °_° We threw everything away and bought new bread on our way to the national park as well as some milk for me because it's good against poisoning.
We arrived at Krka national park at 7:50 AM and there were already about 50 other people there. After much consideration we had chosen the entrance at Lozovac instead of the one in Skradin. We both had read on different blogs that Skradin is more crowded than Lozovac and that there is less free parking. In the end, it was a good decision because this way we saw all the park before the crowds arrived and we went to the big waterfalls where you can swim only after having seen most of the rest quietly. We didn't go for a swim, I only went in
to take some pictures of the waterfall. Being there so early allowed us even to take some pictures just of the waterfall, without any people! :-)
To our disappointment, the park was very small, but it was worth the trip, it is very beautiful!
Since it was only about 10 AM when we finished the tour (now people were arriving in mass), we decided to Roski Slap, another entrance to the park, about 20 Min from Lozovac. We had read it was one of the most beautiful trails in Croatia. When we arrived there, it was already very hot, about 37°C, and the people at the park reception told us to only do the small trek around the river because it was much too hot and too dangerous to do the longer trek we had wanted to do. It was a pity but we were happy they had told us. So we took the small trail around the river and it was wonderful! It was quite different from the waterfalls in the other part of the park, but we preferred it since there were much fewer people and there was more vegetation thanks to the marsh there.
After half
the trail, we came to a cave up in the mountain. The receptionist had told us better not to do it but since there were many people doing it, we decided to do it as well. It was very, very hot though (back at the car we would see it was 48°C in the sun!!!) and it was quite hard to go to the cave. We were lucky we had so much water with us but many other people had (almost) no water with them. They were crazy! The view from up there was stunning and I could have spent much more time there if it hadn't been this hot. Fortunately, inside the cave it was pretty cold, so we spent quite some time in there to recuperate. It was a pity the people working up in the cave to protect it didn't have any water for the people coming up, they could have used it! We were just in time to do it, but in the afternoon they should have closed the access, it was just I to let people up there in this heat!
Afterwards, the trail was almost finished and we were happy to get park
to our wonderful car with cold air-conditioning. :-)
In conclusion, Krka national park is spectacular but you should be there very early to enjoy it without too many tourists and you should see not only the main attraction at Skradin or Lozovac, but also Roski Slap to enjoy all the diversity this park offers.
