The book signing
This picture shows the gorgeous view at the reception, as well as some of Maja's dress. Our first and major problem with this blog is that we don't have any photos as we were both in the wedding party and didn't have our camera. It will have to suffice for now with some pics from Maja and Steve's camera. Or you can go on Facebook and look up everyone else's photos of Maja and Steve! Best ones so far are Jason's: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=319081&id=805930611
The day was absolutely amazing.
And it was bloody hot. The next day had a lovely breeze, but M&S's wedding day was crazy hot. Maja never complained once, it was very impressive.
The girls woke up early and got started on the day. Maja headed to her "mani-pedi" (as Son likes to call it) and the rest of us brought the stuff with us to the hotel, where we would be getting ready. It was a great morning/early afternoon of getting our hair done, putting on make-up, eating room service lunch and drinking champagne.
The photographer didn't show up (a bit of a long story) so the wedding planner also became the photographer...very versatile, that Nina. The sad thing is we don't have any pics of us getting ready because of
this (I'm really regretting not bring our camera) but Maja took it all in stride and wasn't bothered at all. She was a brilliant bride!
Meanwhile, the boys had a fun time jet-skiing around Lokrum Island.
Whilst everyone met at the Dub Cafe just outside the Pile Gate for a drink before the ceremony, the girls were getting their pictures taken around the Old City. It was an unbelievable experience. When Nina was off taking pictures of Maja, Son and I in our matching dresses kept getting asked by tourists to be in their photos. When Nina wasn't taking pictures of Maja, everyone was stopping to stare at Maja and get her in their pictures. And there was lots of clapping and cheering. On the boat ride to the Old Town, in the Old Town, everywhere! It was a bit surreal. Lots of local kids would stop and sing songs, which I had no idea what they were but Maja and Marina were laughing so it must have been a local thing. :o)
The ceremony was brilliant, short but enough time to make us all cry. I saw Steve and Shane well up right from the start.
Son and Marina pretty much through the whole thing. Skate's reading did it for me. It was an amazing ceremony.
After that we did photos inside the ceremony venue, which were lovely. We saw some friends from the UK who we hadn't seen yet so we got to catch up briefly with them. Then we took the boat back to the hotel for the reception. It was gorgeous!
Pre-reception drinks in the hotel bar and then we moved down to the terrace, which had the most stunning views. The night was an absolute blast, dinner lasted all night so we danced inbetween courses and after it was over. The speeches were particularly great, if I do say so myself. :o) Maja's grandpa's letter that Marina translated had everyone in tears. Son and I, thank goodness, went for the comic relief of the evening as Maja's Dad, Marina and Shane's speeches were all lovely and cryers. It was so wonderful to be a part of their wedding!
After the reception was over, everyone headed to East-West, a nearby bar right on the beach. Things get a little hazy there as most people were feeling the effects of the
alcohol, Son and I were just exhausted (as I'm sure were others as well) and we left around 3am. Shane almost came home with the sweetest cat but luckily Marina was there to make sure he came home later sans chat.
It was such a great day. Maja and Steve looked amazing and seemed to have such a good time. So off they went a couple of days later to Istanbul to stay at a Kempinski hotel while the rest of us went on our own adventure...

Well put!
It was a great day and you have described it so well that it brings it all back. Actually, it makes me want to renew our vows already just so we can do it all again!
