The sun was shining down on us today! Yeah. What a birthday treat for the birthday girl. We made pannenkoeken for breakfast and stuffed them with jelly and/or nutella and bananas. Everyone loves that meal. We stayed around the house most of the morning so I could clean up for our first house guest, Jonathan’s cousin Eric. We walked to the bakery and got a strawberry tart for dessert (still no oven to cook in) and the kids got a piece of cake to split for an after lunch treat. We made grilled cheese for lunch and they split their cake with raspberries on the side for dessert. I tried with all my might to get Eliza to take an early nap so we could head to the park and the pool, but she was too wound up. Abigail took a nice little nap however.
We ended up waking Abigail up around 2:30 and heading to the park across town via the bus. We stopped for ice cream on our way to the pool and then spent the next three hours frolicking in the water. The kids had a blast. We brought sand toys so they were able to play
with buckets and shovels and we had a great time tossing a ball around. Eliza started to fall apart and somehow at 4:30 I was able to get her to take a nap in the stroller. A little after 6pm we got out of the pool and got dressed and went to the big playground. We figured that we would do a few of the things Eliza’s likes best and top on her list is big slides. And these slides are HUGE. She had a great time. Since it was the end of the day and dinner time the park emptied out nicely so we were able to have the run of the place. Emma even climbed up the giant, bouncy spider’s web since there were no big kids on it.
At 7pm we left the park and took the bus into town to meet Jonathan for dinner. We tried out a new pizza place (hands down one of Eliza’s favorite meals) run by a family that only speaks Italian. It was fantastic pizza. After stuffing ourselves we decided we were too full for strawberry tart so we would save that for dessert when Eric arrived. But the kids

Eliza looooves horses (and ducks, and bubbles) so we found a little stuffed horse for her birthday. weren’t too full to go to their favorite ice cream place for a birthday treat. Emma tried pistachio and loved it. Abigail had the usual strawberry and Eliza had ‘cookies’ which was more like cake batter with chocolate in it. Abigail got to ride home on the rack on the back of Jonathan’s bike. She loves this. She puts her feet in the saddle bags and holds on to his belt. At this point the kids were filthy so we couldn’t avoid a bath before bed, which meant no one was asleep before 9:45. I think it was a very successful and fun day for the birthday girl.
