D+38

We are now in Austria in a small town called Grein about 2 days ride from Vienna. Since our last entry we have had about 10 days of flat cycle paths which have been a delight to cycle on. Anyone wanting to do cycling holiday could do no worse than to come to the Danube. Accommodation is plentiful, the food is great and the beer just keeps on getting better. Like every border we have crossed so far it rained when we crossed into Austria. Fortunately we were close to a bar so were able to see the storm (and it was a storm) through. We have met quite a few cyclist on route who have been very helpful with language issues and recommending places to see. Many we keep bumping into every few days as they are heading in the same direction as us. They are often amazed that we have cycled from the UK and even more amazed when we tell them where we are going to. A few more stats for you:

Total distance so far - just under 1300 miles.
Crashes - 1 (Joy)
Punctures - 1 (why does it always happen to me Joy)
We are averaging 1 litre of Meths (for the cooker) per 500 miles (you can't get much greener than that)
Joy is averaging 1 litre of beer per 30 miles - hence the reduction in miles per day and the increase in toilet stops.

When we get to Vienna we plan to take a few days off before we push on to Hungry. We are missing you all and think about you all the time. Thanks again for the messages of support they are much appreciated - keep them coming we look forward to reading them.
