Vienna

Katie and I were actually a little disappointed with our stay in Vienna. We kept hearing such awesome things about it, so we booked 3 nights at our hostel there. Unfortunately, Katie got bed bugs and we weren't really sure how to fill up our 3 days in the city. We went on a long walk and saw a lot of the museums, but we didn't have a guide and often didn't know what we were looking at. Regardless, a few highlights...

Schönbrunn Palace
As usual, we didn't actually pay to go inside and see the royal residences. However, the palace is cool from the outside and the gardens were beautiful. It's nice to finally be able to say to check it out on facebook... my photos are finally up! Neat fountains and beautiful trees, along with nice views of the city. There was also a zoo (that we didn't pay for of course), but instead we walked around and looked at some of the animals through the fence 😊

Vienna Opera
After waiting in line for several hours, we were finally brought to our 2nd row standing room "seats." As told, we wrapped our scarves around the railing in front of us to mark our spot before returning to the foyer. We enjoyed some crisp apple strudel before the show began and went back to our standing spot. Just before the show began, a women who had claimed the spot behind us started yelling at a couple for taking her place. To be fair, she had definitely claimed the spot and rightfully stood in line to get into the 3rd row. The couple tried to totally ignore her until she literally tried to climb over the railing. All this right behind us while the orchestra was beginning to play. The woman was clearly really upset and everyone around agreed that yes, she was there before. She finally physically forced the couple into the aisle where they stood next to her for the first half. It was crazy!

The show we saw was called Fidelio and they had little screens that translated it to English. It was interesting, but quite long. After standing for the first half (an hour and a half long!); Katie and I decided that we had gotten our feel for the Vienna Opera and headed to a delicious late dinner. I had a chicken and dumpling dish with pumpkin and it was fantastic!

Hi
Enjoyed your comments on Salzburg and Vienna. The chicken dish sounds yummy. Quite an experience at the opera. Continue to have fun and thanks for sharing. Hugs, G
