Background: Once the center of power for the large Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austria was reduced to a small republic after its defeat in World War I. Following annexation by Nazi Germany in 1938 and subsequent occupation by the victorious Allies in 1945, Austria's status remained unclear for a decade. A State Treaty signed in 1955 ended the occupation, recognized Austria's independence, and forbade unification with Germany. A constitutional law that same year declared the country's "perpetual neutrality" as a condition for Soviet military withdrawal. Following the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991 and Austria's entry into the European Union in 1995, some Austrians have called into question this neutrality. A prosperous, democratic country, Austria entered the Economic and Monetary Union in 1999.

Seavas! This time we look at Austria. After leaving the tropical sea-levels of northern Italy, it was nice to have a change of scenery as we moved forwards towards the Germanic regions of central Europe. Hello one and all, moved over to Innsbruck on Tuesday. Great train ride, very comfortable :) Today is Thursday 22 May, just using a little spare time I have before I catch a bus to another attraction! Arrived at my hotel and I told Amy that I am competing with her tiny room at the backpackers in Hamilton she uses when on her Vet Nursing block courses! It has been two weeks since our return to home sweet Innsbruck. By the end of our journey to eastern europe Jenna and Kathy were eagerly looking forward to seeing the mountains once again. Snow on the trees means fresh!

We crossed into Austria under the shadow of the Zugspitze and worked our way through the winter wonderland down to the main valley to reach Innsbrueck. Down in the valley the snow had turned to rain, but we made the best of it because we anyway needed a place to pause in order to decide where to go snowboarding. Am 20. August 08 startn mia vo München nach London, dann am 21. nach Tobago! Da nächste Flug geht am 14.12. vo Los Angeles nach Cook Islands.....und bis dahin schaugn ma a bissl durch Südamerika. ( Venezuela, Brasilien, Bolivien, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexiko und dann LA!)
