Carnival!
Check out this costume, probably my favorite. But hard to say. Carinival! Our first week in St. Martin happened to be Mardi Gras and all of town was closed for the week to celebrate. So we went over to Philipsburg to watch the grand parade- and let me tell you, it was awesome! The costumes were big and bold and feathery and glittery and just over the top. And live music was blasting from the back of semi-trucks throughout the parade, so loud that we were able to feel the beat pulsing in our chest. It was a throng of activity, everyone was dancing and drinking and having a great time. The whole procession lasted for at least 4 hours and we couldn’t believe that the participants, who started in the next town over at 11:00 in the morning, could parade all day in the intense sunshine, walking for miles in these amazing costumes. But we were not without refreshment for there was a Heineken truck that was handing out free beers to everyone- yohoo! It made the Macy's Day Parade look prude. It certainly was a once in a lifetime experience and we were excited to be here for the festivities. I have included many pictures of the event, after all
