Thursday 6th November 2014 Saint Thomas, US Virgin Islands Christopher Columbus recorded his sighting of St Thomas on his second voyage to the “New World” in 1493. Little more is known of the Virgin Islands until the seventeenth century. In Charlotte Amalie, the main town on St Thomas, there is a commemorative stone with the title “Landing of the Virginia settlers”. These settlers were a company of 144 Englishmen, bound for Virginia, who landed on St Thomas on 4th April 1607 and stayed for three days, before going on to found Jamestown in Virginia. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in the world, outside the British Isles. As this commemorative stone states, from that colony grew the overseas expansion of English speaking peoples: the Commonwealth of Virginia: the United States of America: the British Commonwealth ... read more

Woke again to the sound of the ship slowing down, went on to the terrace to see the most beautiful, lush, green island with stunning houses overlooking the blue seas. After yesterdays disaster we had decided not to book a trip but to take a taxi to Magens bay, listed as one of the top ten most beautiful beaches. First was the tedious job of clearing US customs on board the ship as this was the first point of entry into the US. Of course Kellie and Ben as US citizens sailed through while we had to wait in a line the length of the ship, asot happened the line moved quickly and we were soon off ad in a cab on the way to the beach. Our driver Andy a typical Caribbean guy with silky ... read more

Tuesday, June 3, 2014 Today is a day of rest and relaxation for us, it is a day at sea. Although the Breton’s don’t normally relax on our sea days, we do take things a little slower, like sleep in a bit, except for Todd. We had an enjoyable breakfast in the dining room. We met a couple from Belgium. The gentlemen retired at 51 and sold his jewelry business to his brother. He and his wife now travel for fun. Another couple at the table lived in New Hampshire. Quite a diverse groups of passengers our ship. This is one exciting part of traveling is that people we meet on our journey’s. This morning we decided to play trivia this morning. We normally participate in this activity multiple times, however the scheduled sessions have been ... read more

Sunday, June 1, 2014 Today we are visiting the island of St. Thomas. When visiting this island in December 2013, we have vivid memories of all the mega yachts lining the harbor, however this time, there were very few yachts. I suspect most of them headed to the east coast for the summer. Cindy and I had a late tour this morning; however Jenny and Marcus needed to get off the ship early, 8:15 am. There tour was swimming with sea lions, this sounds really fun. Michael and Brian’s tour was with Cindy and I along with Brian’s family, Charles and Cathy. Our tour started at 9:30 am. Cindy and I ate breakfast in the dining room. We really enjoy eating breakfast in the dining room. We meet a really nice family from the Boston area, ... read more

Friday, December 27, 2013 (At Sea) An exciting day today, we are at sea so nothing organized for the day, just do what we want. As usual, I am up super early, even on vacation, at 5:00 am. The upside, I am able to work on my blog and respond to emails before everyone else is up. Everyone else was up at 7:45 am this morning. Instead of eating in the buffet in Horizon Court, we decided to eat in the Concerta dining room, the same dining room for dinner. We like eating here because the food is made to order and fresh. First thing this morning Michael and I went to the 17th deck and entered a putt putt golf tournament. Michael played well, Todd not so much. Michael played in three sudden death playoff ... read more

Saturday 16th – Saturday 30th November Including Thanksgiving holiday week Norwegian Epic - Eastern Caribbean cruises Two weeks of mostly fine and sunny with some rain – averaging 29c The colossal Epic has been our home for two weeks. The first week was spent with friends from New Zealand and the second on our own. We had a balcony cabin and experienced the unusual curved walls and bed for the first time. Also, the bathroom configuration is different to the typical ship cabin. On entry into the room the shower is on the left behind a glass sliding door and the toilet on the right behind another glass sliding door. The small basin is positioned on the counter top within the main bedroom. A curved couch is between the bed and the balcony. The wardrobe space ... read more

Welcome to my travel blog! I decided to create this blog for my parents, mainly because my mom was so excited about the idea. Then I got to thinking! What a great idea it is to be able to document my trip for everyone close to me whom I love with all my heart.... read more

Up with Alarms at 8AM to see we are already in dock at St Thomas which is one of the US Virgin Islands. A couple of fried eggs for breaky with OJ and cereal and we are ready to get off the Ship for our only pre-organised excursion. Weather was slightly overcast and around 30 degrees. We are off for a 4 hour trip to Trunk Bay which is on the neighbouring island of St John. We have to get another boat to take us there (just what we need !). It’s about a 40 minute boat ride a bit rough as we cross where the Carribean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean and the currents are really strong. There is lots of development of the coastline but not overdeveloped. As we head out our guide Jimmie ... read more

I am up at 06:30, we are suppose to go walking around the ship, there is a track on the 5thfloor, but Di refuses to go, so I set off by myself. I do about 6 circuits of the ship 2.4 circuits = 1 mile. We have breakfast in “Central Park” at the café, we are still trying to eat a bit more sensible, and have fruit juice and a toasted cheese and ham bagel – it is pretty good. Meanwhile the ship is edging its way into St Thomas harbour, we go up top on the ship to watch and take photographs and videos. We decide to wait a while before we go ashore, and sit in the Solarium for a while, we debate whether or not we want to make the effort to go ... read more

We are in the Bermuda Triangle so I hope that we do not just disappear. Today we will spend all day sailing to reach St Thomas on Wednesday. We are down for breakfast at around 09:00, but have cut down of the food intake so we just have fruit and fruit juice – the 3 meals a day are beginning to take their toll not only on the waistline, but by feeling permanently bloated! We also start to realize that we have a number of options for breakfast as regards restaurants. We have been going to the restaurant on the 15th floor, we now realize that there is a restaurant in Central Park on the 8th floor where our cabin is, so decide to go there tomorrow. Di has been unable to find any magazines to ... read more
