Christmas

Christmas in Guatemala was great fun and very different. The main meal was on Christmas Eve and I joined the family of Gladys (the owner of the language school) and her family and other students for a turkey meal (minus brussel sproats, stuffing and the like!). At midnight the whole city errupted to the sound and sight of fireworks to celebrate the arrival of Christmas Day and at this point the family opened their presents, including the very sleepy children!

The next day about 18 of us set off in a 15 seater minibus to a cousin of Gladys to a town about an hour away from Xela. At the cousin's house were about 70 members of the extended family (and us students of course) and somehow we were all fed and watered sufficiently!

Later in the afternoon we headed to the coast where we spent the evening, staying in a hotel, and lay on the beach for an hour or so the next morning, before returning to Xela for classes in the afternoon.

Hi
Hi mate, Photos look great - the long table at Xmas must have been nice. You even look like you've lost weight (shock horror). Hope you continue to have fun mate. Si
