Edit Blog Post
Well the internet was down all day yesterday and half of today due to rain, so this is sort of a summary blog I guess...
First day of school was really fun. We have a great group of 10, 2 guys and 8 girls. Everyone seems really cool and fun. It's pretty basic grammar stuff that we're doing now, but I'm really glad I studied and brought some of my own materials because it is helping a lot. Day 2 (today) was fun too, people are starting to get to know one another a little better which is awesome.
We went out last night to this "ladies night" that one of the women recommended. I have to be honest, I was disappointed. Not only did it remind me of a junior high dance (groups of boys and groups of girls, but no interaction) but the dj was kind of a joke. My party people can appreciate it when I say that if you only have one mid for a speaker and you mix (inexplicably horribly) salsa and 10 year old trance on a laptop, it is really REALLY lame to sit there and bust the one headphone thing. to dude: You don't have tables, please don't act like you do. (But I hear that's just CR for you)
Both girls that live on campus with me are super cool. One is from the bay and one from FSU. It's just the 3 of us here on campus and we're having a good time just hanging out. I've been tasked as the chef because neither one of the girls cook. So, I made pasta with chorizo and garlic last night and shrimp with rice and beans tonight. Happily, both were edible =) What we figured out though is that we can get casado in town for probably cheaper than buying our own food, plus that saves me having to cook every night. Casado was muy delicioso by the way! Wanted to have some so bad and boy was it good...
The campus here is interesting. Crazy building, and sort of in disrepair too. I guess in this climate everything rusts, but there's some crazy-ass metal stairs here and I'm just sayin'... Also, none of the bathrooms have hot water (not that I need it) but I thought that was wild. AND, you can't flush toilet paper in
Abandoned "luxury" condos
Looks like the housing market bottomed out here too... Costa Rica. I guess the sewer system pipes are too small for any paper products so you have to throw the used stuff in the trash. Kind of gross...
Finally got some soap and shampoo, that was more of a task than I anticipated. The stores here have stuff, but it's definitely not like home. Also, there's this weird thing about milk: It's not cold. Apparently, it's triple-pasteurized so until you open it you can leave it at room temp. I guess it will last a few months like that. Craziness...
I'm off to the shower before bed. That's been the plan so far and it is working. I get all cooled down before bed. Surprisingly, while I am sweating pretty heavy still, it's not hot. Just humid. But really, it's actually kind of nice. The past 2 days it rained during the day and got clear at night. All around campus you can hear birds and frogs and monkeys all night. It's great!
Be well friends, more to follow!
