hey
so yesterday i finally made it to la fortuna, hoping to see the famous volcano arenal. arriving it was kind of raining and the first guy who harrassed me off the bus was kind of nice. i used the internet first and then we walked around while he tried to sell me some tours. i eventually made it to the backpackers hostel. TOTAL RIP OFF!! broke the bank here. they did have a nice but freezing pool and since it was raining i took a nice shower dip. have been wearing the same clothes for 4 days cause laudry is just NOT possible in the rain. however i think my body knows whats going on and remarkably my clothes don´t smell. lol. also luckily i packed extra underwear and have not had to compromise on that end. lol
so i payed an arm and a leg for a ridiculous tour through the forest to see the lava of the volcano at dusk, the volcano which was invisible due to cloud cover, however then i went to the magnificent hot springs at baldi. not the natural ones that cost an extra hundred dollars. they divert the natural HOT water
into these man made pools and waterfalls. A TERRIFIC PARK!! however don´t take the tour cause we only got 2 hours. BULLSHIT. but it was really nice!! the food was super good too, but also costing a fortune, that´s why tonight i´m eating carrots and cucumber (with beer) for diner. i know my diet is getting more varied. hehehe
so the guide took a shinning to me and came into the water park, sneeking in some beer for me, and was hitting on me all night. nice enough guy, definately a player. i missed the tour bus back cause shit, it was just too damn nice, despite the harrassment of the guide. i just kept pool jumping away from him in a polite fashion. in the end we split a taxi back. he also offered me a peculiar white chocolate, a single pill type thing that made me sucipious, so i spit it out behind his back, just in case. anyways when we got back to my hostel i was over joyed to see Eran had made it by surprize from the carribean coast. thank god!! he saved my butt cause i was going into downtown and the tour
guide was on my ass. so the three of us went for dinner, drinks, etc. and than Eran and I departed. but not before the guy begged me to come over to see his place just for 5 minutes on the pretext to exchange emails....
all in all an interesting and fun day though, even though no lava
early in the morning we jumped on the jeep, boat, jeep to monteverde, a 2.5 hour journey across a lake and rolling mountins. jungle turned into beautiful farm land. it was sunny and cloudy, they call it the cloud forest. this magical mist hangs over the hills most of times. breath taking sites. plus it is quite cool to see cows on the steep hills in the midst of jungle sometimes. up and down and up and down the winding steeps dirt roads covered with rocks and holes, we bumped along for over an hour. up one huge hill down another. all the while looking at valleys, rolling hills and mountins. all the way to the touristy but quaint village of monteverde. so awesome here. too bad i only had 1 hour to explore becuase i booked an AWESOME canopy
tour at extremo. 3 hours of ziplines. one as long a 1km and 280 m high!!! f"$%" awesome!! most of the lines were just as high and almost as long. 15 in total. plus a killer, i repeat killer tarzan swing. they just boot you of and you FALLLLLL then swing. the only problem is the fall is significant and the line is NOT flexible, so eventhough it was totally awesome fun it really hurt my back afterwards. don´t worry mom its feeling better now. oh and there was also a rappel. i spent the day 100s of meters up in trees and swinging over large valleys. i wasn´t scared and only wished it was FASTER! but it wasn´t bad. totally worth it. only 30 bucks for students.
so that´s it for expensive things. i´m hitting the pacific coast tommorow. maybe i´ll finally get a tan!! going to montezuma. a full day of travel. a long bus. a ferry. another long bus, and plenty of waiting in between. running low on cash now so i´ll need to take more drastic measures when i hit the coast. let´s see. avacados are cheep and make some good eatin!
wish i
could stay here longer but alas the sun calls me. its quite chilly here and rainy. but today was beautiful. the winds are picking up now and i´m wearing my MEC south american winter gear. all of it! i hope my blanket is thick but they never are....
