This is the school where we teach.

1/18 We have finally moved into our new apartment and are slowly getting settled in our new life. Heredia is the perfect size town. Small enough to walk across but big enough to have all that we need. The terrain, weather and overall feel of Heredia reminds me a little of a northern California town, cool breezy nights and sunny cool days. During the day, I think the temperature here is usually in the 70's, rarely exceeding the low 80's and at night it dips into the high 50's. San Jose is a fifteen minute bus ride away and the nearest beach is only a couple of hours by bus. Last week we attended orientation for the new teachers at school and learned a lot more about what exactly what we will be doing over the next year. The school is a five block walk from the apartment and in the center of town. When we arrived last Wednesday for orientation, it also happened to be the day of registration for our students. The line for registration stretched around the block! This is a bigger school than we expected, over a thousand students and twenty five teachers. Most

teachers will be teaching classes no bigger than eight students and many of us will start with private one-on-one lessons. Megan and I have private lessons during the week and a couple of group classes on Saturdays. I think that this will be a good way to get started and get our feet wet slowly.
1/27 We have finished a week of teaching and so far so good. Our students are eager to learn and seem to be fast learners. The program we use to teach is laid out in a way that makes the material easy to access by the students. Our students are mostly adults or college students coming for classes in their free time. Classes are available for an hour and a half in the evenings twice a week or for three hours on Saturdays. Life for us is slowly settling into a comfortable routine and we hope soon to be able to do some exploring and see some more of this beautiful place. We too also hope that our friends and family will start planning a visit to come and see this place for themselves.... Keep in touch and we hope to see you all soon!
